Major infrastructure upgrades meant to protect Florida’s Tampa Bay area from flooding are months away from completion, as the vulnerable region braces for what could be the worst hurricane in more than a century, officials said. Hurricane Milton is expected to strike the Tampa area overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning with life-threatening storm surge of up to 15 feet, said Austen Flannery, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Tampa office. Since then, the region’s population has grown from roughly 400,000 people to 3.8 million, and the number of buildings has either tripled or quadrupled, according to the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council. The National Weather Service said Tuesday was the last full day for Florida residents to do so. “This is playing out to be one of our worst case scenarios for our area,” said Wren Krahl, the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council's executive director.

Carr was injured in the fourth quarter of the Saints’ 26-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. Carr has completed 70.3% of his passes for New Orleans (2-3) so far this season, the second-best mark of his career. The Saints scored 91 points in the first two weeks of the season but only 67 over the last three. New York CNN —Gas stations in many areas of Florida are running out of gasoline, as residents prepare for Hurricane Milton. Gas price tracking service GasBuddy reported that as of Tuesday morning, 14.5% of gas stations statewide were without fuel, a dramatic spike from just 3% on Monday. DeSantis said 27 fuel trucks were escorted by the Florida Highway Patrol to deliver fuel to stations in the anticipated impact area of the storm. “We have been dispatching fuel over the past 24 hours as gas stations have run out,” he said at a press conference early Tuesday. And the real fear is that the hurricane and storm surge could cause significant damage to the port.
