But it appeared to take Fox News' Trey Gowdy, a former GOP congressman who hosted Scott on his show Sunday, by surprise. "The voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet, … they’re telling me, ‘Not now, Tim.’ I don’t think they’re saying, Trey, ‘no,’ but I do [think] they’re saying ‘not now,’” Scott said. But while Scott technically spoke the most during that debate, his quiet message was drowned out by others. After last Tuesday's debate, Scott brought his girlfriend of one year up to the stage, and the two briefly held hands while candidates' families mingled. “I’ll be honest with you, I ran for president to be president.

Biden’s ‘Up-Ticket’ Ballot Strategy

Is the 80-year-old Biden (who turns 81 on Nov. 20) uniquely vulnerable because of his age and other issues? We'll get you copies of all those other polls," Biden said as he prepared to leave for a speech before United Auto Workers in Illinois. A lot of Biden's policies are toxic," O'Connell adds, ticking off the border and inflation along with the president's age. Democrats, meanwhile, believe they can benefit not just from the abortion issue but discontent toward Trump, whose favorability numbers with the general electorate are on par with Biden's . With stubbornly low approval ratings a year out from the election, Biden will need all the help he can get.

Former President Donald Trump can appear on the primary ballot in Minnesota next year, a court ruled Wednesday, batting back a legal attempt to have him removed from voter consideration on the grounds that he is an insurrectionist constitutionally barred from holding office. "Winning the presidential nomination primary does not place the person on the general election ballot as a candidate for President of the United States," Hudson wrote. Aside from Minnesota, lawsuits have been filed in Colorado, Michigan, Arizona, New Hampshire and New Jersey to deny Trump a place on the ballot pursuant to a clause in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. But even if the Constitution indeed prevents Trump from serving, it cannot stop Minnesota Republicans from engaging in their own, internal nominating process, Hudson wrote. A judge in Colorado held a hearing on the insurrection clause case last week, and a Michigan judge is hearing arguments Thursday.

Instead, they addressed terrorism and the Middle East conflict as well as domestic issues such as Social Security and abortion. On foreign policy, Haley offered an unapologetic and determined vision, saying America needs to stand by its ally Israel and support Ukraine. On Social Security, both Haley and Christie said the retirement age needed to be raised for younger workers, though neither would state a specific age. Ohio Votes to Guarantee Abortion Rights
  + stars: | 2023-11-07 | by ( Susan Milligan | Nov. | At P.M. | ) www.usnews.com   time to read: +7 min
Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved a state constitutional amendment guaranteeing abortion rights, delivering a landslide-sized message Tuesday night to politicians that the near-total ban GOP lawmakers support is unacceptable to the voting public. President Joe Biden, who has made abortion rights a central theme of his struggling 2024 reelection effort, praised the vote. Nebraska's proposed referendum would ban abortion, while the remaining states are considering initiatives to protect reproductive rights. Advocates believe the abortion rights referendum was a driver of that vote. Broken down, that includes 46% of Democrats, 23% of independents and 20% of Republicans, suggesting Democrats are more likely to make abortion rights a defining factor in their votes.

Andy Beshear, defying the deep conservativism of his state of Kentucky and equally deep unpopularity of President Joe Biden, won reelection to a second term Tuesday, beating Republican Daniel Cameron. "This is to you, Daniel Cameron: To tell a 12-year-old girl she should have the baby of her stepfather who raped her is unthinkable. Daniel Cameron would give us none," the young woman says in the ad. Cameron amended his anti-abortion position to include exceptions for rape and incest, but that argument appeared not to sway Kentucky voters. Nov 6 (Reuters) - Wall Street brokerages largely initiated Birkenstock (BIRK.N) with their top ratings, pointing to a likely boost from the German luxury sandal maker's recent investments to increase capacity, expansion into newer styles and brand loyalty. Birkenstock's shares dropped to as low as $35.83 in the days after listing on Oct. 11 and has traded below the IPO price of $46 apiece. Citigroup was among the most bullish, with a price target of $52, a more than 26% jump from the last close. Telsey Advisory Group analysts said Birkenstock has further avenue to expand into footwear categories such as orthopedics and professional, outdoor and active, kids, home, and sneakers. Morgan Stanley assigned a price target of $41 and an "equal-weight" rating, saying most catalysts were already priced in.

Birkenstock made its New York Stock Exchange debut last month at $41, below its initial public offering price. The company priced its IPO at $46 per share, in the middle of its indicated price range. Goldman Sachs sees an opportunity for market share gains, supported by the easing of supply constraints, as well as Birkenstock's pricing ability. Morgan Stanley is skeptical of any upside, assigning a price target of $41 and an "equal-weight" rating, as it sees most catalysts as already priced in. Birkenstock has since recovered, but barely breached its debut open price, closing on Friday at $41.16.

Hezbollah’s Nasrallah Fans Flames of Wider War

Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed Israel on Friday for a humanitarian pause in Gaza to provide relief to Palestinian civilians as worries of a wider Middle East war mount. Asked Friday what his message was to Americans in Gaza, Biden told reporters at the White House, "They'll be coming home." He did not respond to a question about whether he could contain a wider war. Nasrallah said the fighting along the border was weakening Israel and "deterring the enemy" by drawing resources away from Gaza. Biden has also called for justice for Palestinian civilians – and recently, under political pressure from his own Democratic Party, called for the humanitarian pause.

Will Trump’s Barbs Land Him Behind Bars?

It was a historic and jarring event when FBI agents searched former President Donald Trump's home last year to look for classified documents he was accused of hoarding. "Courts and prosecutors have to become normalized to the idea of detaining Trump – if he continues to violate gag orders and/or if he is convicted at trial," Signorelli says. Less-powerful defendants have been punished with time behind bars for being in contempt of court (including violating gag orders) or threatening authorities. Sam Bankman-Fried, the former billionaire crypto trader, was put behind bars in August weeks before his fraud trial after giving a media outlet private writings by a witness. While courts are sensitive to First Amendment protections – especially for someone running for president – Trump is pushing the legal envelope, Eisen says.

But this year, abortion is on the ballot, with party control of the closely divided chambers of the legislature determining whether Virginia will lose its status as the last Southern state where abortion is mostly legal and accessible. Democrats, meanwhile, see the races as critical not only to sustaining abortion rights in swing-state Virginia but as a test of how powerful the issue remains nationally. Predicting winners is always difficult in state legislative races, but especially hard in Virginia. Where Democrats have an edge, experts say, is on the motivating factor of abortion rights. Nikki Haley is surging in support among Iowa Republicans and is now tied for second place in the battle for the GOP nomination in the Hawkeye State, according to a poll released Monday morning. Haley has the first-choice backing of 16% of Iowa Republicans – the same as Florida Gov. The poll was conducted before Trump's vice president, Mike Pence, dropped out of the race on Saturday, saying "this is not my time." Even before the realignment, Pence was struggling, having dropped from 6% support in August to 2% in the current poll. The Iowa poll reflects a new political reality for the 2024 elections, with the nominations for both major political parties appearing to be sewn up with two and a half months to go before the first nominating contest.

Judge Orders New Congressional Map in Georgia

Georgia has "made great strides since 1965 towards equality in voting," the judge wrote, referring to the year the Voting Rights Act was enacted to ensure Black voter power was not diluted through racially gerrymandered congressional and state legislative maps. Once the maps are drawn, litigants can still sue under the Voting Rights Act to demand the drawing of districts that are not designed to dilute minority voting power. The state is expected to appeal, but in a similar case in Alabama, the high court ruled for voting rights activists. "I applaud the district court's decision ordering Georgia to draw maps compliant with the Voting Rights Act," Georgia state Senate Minority Leader Gloria Butler, a Democrat, said in a statement responding to the ruling. A similar case is going on in Louisiana, which was also ordered to draw another majority-Black district.

The Biden-Harris campaign and other groups circulated and posted images of three bills Johnson has sponsored that the Democrats said would "ban abortion nationwide."
