CNN —Ryan Borgwardt, a Wisconsin kayaker accused of faking his own drowning and fleeing the country, is alive somewhere in Eastern Europe and has been talking to investigators, officials said. “Great news: we know that he’s alive and well,” Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Matthew L. Vande Kolk said Thursday. Borgwardt told investigators that he thought they would stop searching for him after about two weeks, officials said. He chose Green Lake, in part, because it is the deepest natural lake in Wisconsin. The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations are assisting investigators, Vande Kolk said.

CNN —Brazilian authorities have indicted ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, accusing him of “full knowledge” of a 2022 plot to kill his successor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and overturn the results of the presidential election. On Thursday, Brazil’s federal police indicted 37 individuals including Bolsonaro, as part of the investigation into the fallout of the 2022 presidential elections, in which Bolsonaro’s bid for reelection was defeated, CNN Brasil reports. Police reportedly allege that Bolsonaro had “full knowledge” of a plan to prevent Lula and his government from taking office after his election victory. Earlier this week, Brazilian police arrested five people, including a former adviser to Bolsonaro, over the alleged plots. In October 2022, Lula narrowly beat Bolsonaro in the presidential election.

AdvertisementThe DOJ has asked the judge in its antitrust case against Google to force the tech giant to sell Chrome, its massively popular browser. In August, a judge ruled Google violated antitrust laws and acted as a monopoly when it came to its search engine. That makes it a powerful distribution arm for Google since Chrome's default search engine is … Google. And Apple was making at least $20 billion a year by defaulting to Google Search .

This is due to unprofitable EV investments, Chinese market losses, and more domestic competition. Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis plan to slash thousands from their workforce in the coming months. Tucked away in the frigid northern corner of Siberia are giant craters, some deep enough to fit a 15-story building. It's been fairly clear from the beginning that the craters are caused by some type of explosion deep underground. Researchers widely agreed that when these hydrates are damaged, they release methane gas, which is what's triggering the explosions in Siberia. AdvertisementMore exploding craters to comeSiberia will likely have more explosive craters in the coming years as global temperatures continue to warm. It's unclear exactly how much methane these explosions release, but in the grand scheme of climate change, they're a small matter.
