The Biden administration has announced it is planning to deploy dozens of ground-based Starlink devices that connect with satellites to provide internet services to remote areas. “Since the Hurricane Helene disaster, SpaceX has sent as many Starlink terminals as possible to help areas in need,” Musk wrote on X Tuesday. “Earlier today, @realDonaldTrump alerted me to additional people who need Starlink Internet in North Carolina. In addition to Starlink and SpaceX, Musk also owns Tesla and X, formerly Twitter — and he has bragged about the power he now exerts. “Between Tesla, Starlink & Twitter, I may have more real-time global economic data in one head than anyone ever,” Musk posted on X last year.

Before that, groundings were rare for Falcon 9, SpaceX’s centerpiece rocket, which much of the Western world relies on for accessing space. SpaceX is likely to seek FAA approval to resume flights in a similar manner, while its engineering investigation continues with oversight by the FAA. The agency regulates rocket launches and rocket re-entries to the extent they may affect public safety. Falcon 9’s first stage is reusable, but its second stage is not. The Falcon 9 grounding does not directly affect Starship, SpaceX’s giant, next-generation rocket system that it has tested four times since 2023.

Some Brazilian users reconnected with X on Wednesday despite the Supreme Court's recent nationwide ban, the result of the social network apparently changing the way its servers are accessed. That rendered X effectively inaccessible in the country until Wednesday, with AP journalists among those who had access. It acts as a proxy between users and X's servers, filtering traffic and preventing the original Internet Protocol (IP) address from being recognized, Diogenes told The Associated Press. Former president Jair Bolsonaro celebrated the return of the social network. Some Brazilian X users trumpeted the platform's return — with several addressing de Moraes directly, vowing that they weren't using a VPN.

The Crew Dragon capsule carrying four astronauts is on track to land off the coast of Dry Tortugas, Florida, at 3:36 a.m. Already, the Polaris Dawn mission has made history as it reached a higher altitude than any human has traveled in five decades. To safely reach home, the Crew Dragon capsule will carry out what’s called a “de-orbit burn,” orienting itself as it prepares to slice through the thickest part of Earth’s atmosphere. Polaris Dawn crew member and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis emerges from the Crew Dragon capsule's hatch on Thursday during the first commercial spacewalk. Sunday’s anticipated return will mark the conclusion of the third trip to space for the specific Crew Dragon capsule powering the Polaris Dawn mission.

Read previewSpaceX's Polaris Dawn crew successfully returned to Earth on Sunday, bringing Elon Musk one step closer to his dream of settling Mars. They donned new SpaceX spacesuits that had never been tested in orbit, opened their ship to the vacuum of space, and conducted the first-ever commercial spacewalk. On top of that, they exposed themselves to high levels of space radiation, much higher than what astronauts aboard the International Space Station undergo in the same time period. People traveling to Mars would be exposed to immense amounts of space radiation for months. So the Crew Dragon spacecraft flew through two donuts of intense radiation surrounding Earth, called the Van Allen belts.
