In addition to Microsoft-backed (MSFT.O) OpenAI, similar lawsuits are pending against Meta Platforms and Stability AI over the data used to train their AI systems. Other authors involved in the latest lawsuit include "The Lincoln Lawyer" writer Michael Connelly and lawyer-novelists David Baldacci and Scott Turow. The complaint said ChatGPT generated accurate summaries of the authors' books when prompted, indicating that their text is included in its database. It also cited growing concerns that authors could be replaced by systems like ChatGPT that "generate low-quality ebooks, impersonating authors and displacing human-authored books."

It wasn’t until 2018 that the Archdiocese of New Orleans publicly identified Hecker as a suspected predator when it released its list of “credibly accused” priests. He is accused of choking the teen unconscious under the guise of performing a wrestling move and sexually assaulting him. T’s new monthly travel series, Flocking To, highlights places you might already have on your wish list, sharing tips from frequent visitors and locals alike. Majorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, has been a classic summer destination for Europeans and Brits for decades. In the last few years, a number of artists and designers have left larger cities in Europe and moved to Majorca. For the first installment of our series of Flocking To travel guides, we asked four locals or frequent visitors to Majorca to share the places they love most. One word of advice for first-time visitors: Majorca sprawls across roughly 1,400 square miles (it’s about the size of Long Island), so if you’re planning on exploring, you might want to rent a car.

Recent years have brought numerous headlines about another liberal term that has been dismantled by the right. Some scientists believe climate change is a more accurate description of the environmental challenges facing the planet. Demonstrators march across the Brooklyn Bridge during a climate change protest in New York on March 3, 2023. Instead of acknowledging the science pointing toward a looming environmental disaster, one Republican pollster offered another phrase to mute the alarm: climate change. Two decades later, many liberal politicians and activists continue to use the phrase “climate change, the cognitive scientist George Lakoff noted.

Carbon capture, utilization and storage processes have been around for half a decade, but are currently gaining momentum. Some focus on modifying already-standing power as well as industrial plants that work on carbon capture. Put more succinctly, Deutsche Bank analyst James Hubbard called carbon capture "simple in theory" but "capital intensive and divisive" in reality. He also noted the company has one of the industry's largest carbon capture positions. Staphos cited the potential of its carbon capture operations as a long-term reason to be optimistic, even as its more traditional end-market, homebuilding, faces near-term pressure.

Trump believes he will be among them and is already fundraising off of the possibility of more criminal charges, casting them as Democratic efforts to interfere in the 2024 election. But there will be key differences between the potential case in Georgia and Trump’s previous indictments. Investigators have long suspected the breach was not an organic effort sprung from sympathetic Trump supporters in the Republican stronghold. Smith, for example, has asked a judge to open a trial into the election interference charges in January – just two weeks before the Iowa caucuses. It’s too early to speculate how headlines about these cases could weigh on Trump or Biden in November 2024.

Former Georgia Lt. Gov Geoff Duncan, a Republican, said Saturday on CNN that he has been told to appear Tuesday before a Fulton County grand jury to testify about the efforts by Trump and his allies. Independent journalist George Chidi posted on social media later Saturday that he’d been told to appear before the grand jury on Tuesday too. The witnesses Willis has subpoenaed to testify when she presents her case include Duncan, Chidi and former Georgia state Sen. Jen Jordan, a Democrat. Georgia law is unusual in that special purpose grand juries – which have broad investigative powers – are not permitted to issue indictments. When the subpoenaed witnesses appear before the regular grand jury, those grand jurors will hear the witnesses’ testimony for the first time with a narrower purpose at hand: to approve or reject indictments.

Willis, a Democrat, has been eyeing conspiracy and racketeering charges, which would allow her to bring a case against multiple defendants. MOSCOW, June 21 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia's new generation of Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles, which are capable of carrying 10 or more nuclear warheads, would soon be deployed for combat duty. In a speech to new graduates of military academies, Putin stressed the importance of Russia's "triad" of nuclear forces that can be launched from land, sea or air. "The most important task here is the development of the nuclear triad, which is a key guarantee of Russia's military security and global stability," he said. Putin has repeatedly said since the start of the Ukraine conflict that Russia is ready to use all means, including nuclear weapons, to defend its "territorial integrity". The new Sarmat missile is designed to carry out nuclear strikes on targets thousands of missiles away in the United States or Europe.

But to be honest, it didn’t really make me feel like a dad, let alone the number one dad. Neither had I), I’ve come to see the old dad ways a little more sympathetically, and with some measure of recognition. Still, the touchstones of Boomer dad culture have outlived their descriptive usefulness for younger generations. What, we might ask, is dad culture in 2023? Finally, the new dad culture has definitely not found it necessary to put away childish things.

Goldman Sachs recommended buying three information services stocks that should be helped by artificial intelligence. Analyst George Tong scored how business and information services companies can deploy generative AI and analyzed the revenue impacts from the technology on these businesses. "We believe generative AI will have a profound and varied impact on the Business & Information Services sector over the medium-to-longer term," he said in a note Wednesday to clients. S & P Global has outperformed the broader market this year with a 17.8% gain. At the same time, Tong said, demand for AI-related research should only grow, which should provide a boost to the company's technology research arm.

Ukrainian counteroffensive operations are happening at various points along the front lines with mixed results. But the main attack likely hasn't started yet as each side tries to outfox the other, experts say. Both sides look to be playing a deadly "game" aimed at getting a read on the threat, as well as misleading and misdirecting the enemy, and the main attack is likely still to come, experts say. "We haven't committed our main forces," a source in Ukraine's General Staff told The Economist Sunday, adding that "the Russians haven't committed their main forces." "The offensive has clearly started," he observed, "but not I think the main attack."
