With password management company NordPass saying each person has an average of 100 online accounts, the deaths of loved ones have become ever more complicated. And while digital legacy planning can ease some of that burden, experts say far too few people take advantage of those tools. And even for some people who can access their loved one’s accounts, the process can be daunting. CNN —Many young people have reported having poor mental health during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. Their experiences are affirmed by a new study finding that the rate of prescribing antidepressants to this group also spiked during the same period. But since the Covid-19 outbreak in the United States in March 2020, the dispensing rate rose nearly 64% faster than normal, according to the study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics. In female adolescents ages 12 to 17, the dispensing rate increased 130% faster after March 2020, Chua said. “I can’t tell you how many pediatricians have told me that they feel like they’re just mental health clinicians at this point,” he said.

New York CNN —From Dua Lipa to “silent” book clubs, Millennials and Gen Z are joining book clubs as a way to socialize. Many of these book clubs are not the stodgy ones of old, however, featuring wine and crackers in a host’s living room. Themed book club events, such as queer book clubs, saw an 82% increase in attendance in 2023, according to Eventbrite, while attendance at silent book clubs increased 23%. Phelan M. Ebenhack via APEventbrite is also seeing growth in romance book clubs, dating event book clubs and evening book club running groups, such as Read & Run Chicago. Gen Z favorite Dua Lipa has a book club.

Other states, like Delaware, don’t currently have vending machines but plan to launch programs this year. ☆ FTC fines cybersecurity company Avast $16.5 million for tracking and selling user data

CNN —Cybersecurity software company Avast faces a $16.5 million fine from the Federal Trade Commission after the agency filed a complaint Wednesday accusing the company of selling consumer data to third parties. The FTC says Avast, a firm that promises to protect consumer data from online tracking, has done the opposite, collecting and selling user browsing data without knowledge or consent while simultaneously misleading users. Furthermore, the FTC says Avast told users it would only share information in “anonymous and aggregate form,” though this was not the case. “Because it is intrinsically sensitive, browsing data warrants heightened protection.”The FTC says Avast sold data to a range of over 100 clients, including consulting firms, advertising companies and data brokers. On top of the multi-million dollar fine, Avast is being hit with a ban from the FTC to prohibit the company from selling or licensing data for advertising purposes.
