[1/5] A general view of Highclere Castle, the stately home known around the world as the venue for "Downton Abbey", in Highclere, Britain, March 10, 2023. Highclere Castle in southern England, where the early 20th century period drama about the lives of aristocrats and their servants was filmed, is facing a serious staffing crunch. "We have stopped being able to offer any weddings of any substantial size because of Brexit," Carnarvon, a countess who owns Highclere with her husband, the eighth Earl of Carnarvon, said. Since leaving the European Union, Britain has faced worker shortages at various stages in areas such as manufacturing, construction and logistics. The challenge: Attempt a surf, skate, and snowboard "trifecta" in the middle of a busy work dayOver the past few years, remote work has become a routine part of our lives. This is the case for the sales teams at Volcom, a global lifestyle apparel brand based in Costa Mesa, California. Two Volcom sales executives, Brent Lantz and David Jurusik (or BL and Nook, respectively), embrace this — whether it's taking a call on a ski slope or discussing inventory with retailers on the road. Dell Technologies and Intel teamed up with Volcom to see if they could improve and optimize their on-the-go sales efforts and work connectivity. The challenge: Attempt a southern California "trifecta" — surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding within a 12-hour period — all while completing a full day of work.
Emma Larocque set up her Etsy shop, Quartz Design Studio, to make a passive income on the side. I created a Printful account and linked to an Etsy shop I'd started in November 2021. Once an order is placed through Etsy, Printful automatically embroiders the sweatshirt with my design and sends it to the customer. My revenue for last year from the Etsy shop was about $71,000, after Etsy's 9.5% transaction and processing fee. I pay more to have my items made and shipped by Printful, but that's what keeps my shop passive.

DUBAI, Jan 29 (Reuters) - A loud explosion at a military plant in Iran's central city of Isfahan was caused by an "unsuccessful" drone attack, Iranian state media reported on Sunday, citing the defence ministry. Fortunately, this unsuccessful attack did not cause any loss of life and caused minor damage to the workshop's roof," the ministry said in a statement carried by the state news agency IRNA. There have been a number of explosions and fires around Iranian military, nuclear and industrial facilities in the past few years. The blasts have at times caused concern amid tensions over Iran's nuclear programme with Israel and the United States. Israel has long threatened military action against Iran if indirect talks between Washington and Tehran fail to salvage a 2015 nuclear pact.

[1/2] Pedestrians walk past a closed pet shop in Mong Kok district after a hamster cull was ordered to curb the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, in Hong Kong, China, January 19, 2022. The government aims to "resume commercial imports of hamsters around mid-January," it said in a statement to Reuters. In January 2022, Hong Kong ordered a hamster cull amid an outbreak of Delta variant cases in humans that was traced back to a pet shop worker in the Chinese special administrative region. Hong Kong's pet rodent clampdown had echoed the mainland's zero-tolerance approach to COVID-19. Little Boss, the operating company which owned the pet shop at the heart of Hong Kong's hamster cull last year, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Britain's charity shops are transforming as they try to appeal to Gen Z customers. The managers told Insider their retro and vintage stores were largely in urban areas with large student populations. Grace Dean/InsiderE-commerce for charity shops is completely different than e-commerce for retailers that sell large batches of new products. Nonessential retail stores had to shut their doors for months during the pandemic, which the Charity Retail Association estimated cost UK charity shops about £28 million, or $32 million, a month. But, as the aisles of charity shops across the UK show, a lot of people do choose to donate them.

The Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus is one of the few Orthodox Churches worldwide to recognise the independence of the fellow-Orthodox Church of Ukraine, in a move which triggered a rift within the Cypriot church in 2020. Chrysostomos had recognised the independence of the Ukrainian church away from Moscow's influence, butting heads with clerics considered pro-Russian. Today it has business interests as diverse as real estate to Cyprus's award-winning KEO beer. "In Cyprus the flock has the privilege of choosing who will be its shepherd," said theologian Theodoros Kyriakou. A gunman, clad in all black, opened fire inside a suburban Seattle barbershop on Wednesday, killing the shop's owner while he was cutting an 8-year-old's hair, police said. Witnesses told investigators that the gunman shot the shop owner, a 43-year-old Tacoma man, "multiple times" before he "fled the area on foot," the statement said. The shooter could only be described as a 5-foot-8 man wearing all black clothing, police said. The child was not wounded during the deadly attack that unfolded about 35 miles south of downtown Seattle. Police are asking nearby residents and businesses to check their surveillance cameras, in case they might have caught a glimpse of the killer.
Like other Wall Street firms upended by the technology, PE firms' motivation to make the move is tied to harnessing the copious amounts of data they manage. GFT works with more than 20 private-equity firms for digital transformation, including a handful of tier-one PE companies, he said. Some PE firms have tried to leverage their scale for pricing discounts among cloud providers, Mahenthiran said. Major cloud providers, like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, have been hungry for more Wall Street market share. That hasn't stopped PE firms from trying to hire out data-science and cloud teams to help front-office researchers find new opportunities and oversee internal cloud infrastructure, Vyas said.

Britain's charity shops are changing how they look and trying to appeal to Gen Z customers. Petithomme goes by the alias Ti Makak, and leads a gang of the same name. Haiti's National Police did not respond to requests for comment on the police commissary incident or about Ti Makak in general. Local media reported that Ti Makak was responsible. But the calls continued, he said, and a group later arrived in person, saying they were linked to Ti Makak. "We can easily conclude that the Ti Makak band seeks to win the hearts of the people, particularly of those people who have been involved in acts of looting during recent protests," Germain said.

Oct 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday weighed the constitutionality of a California law banning the sale of pork from pigs confined in spaces with too little space to move freely that industry groups have said impermissibly regulates out-of-state farmers. The law was approved by voters as a ballot initiative in 2018 to bar sales in California of pork, veal and eggs from animals whose confinement failed to meet minimum space requirements. "As I read California's law, it's about products being sold in California," conservative Justice Clarence Thomas said. The Supreme Court took up the case after the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. President Joe Biden's administration has sided with the pork producers, saying in a Supreme Court brief that states cannot ban products "that pose no threat to public health or safety based on philosophical objections."
More of Alexander’s interview with Abrams will air tonight on “NBC Nightly News” at 6:30 ET. During the interview, Abrams described Georgia as having "one of the strictest abortion bans in the nation," but didn't specify what she could do to change that if elected. Part of her campaign strategy, Abrams said, involves visiting voters in more rural areas that are typically known for supporting conservative candidates. Abrams said that 53 percent of the 1.6 million people she has helped register to vote in her state are Democratic-leaning. Much of that community, she said, is "often the most overlooked" and that's why she's reaching out to them directly.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Sawyer Hemsley, the 30-year-old cofounder and chief operating officer of Crumbl Cookies. In May 2017, Jason said he'd invest $10,000 into the cookie business if we could find a good deal on a building. We talked about our chocolate-chip cookies on social media and paid for Instagram and Facebook ads. If a previous cookie's strength score was under 13%, we take it back into the research-and-development kitchen to improve it.
