Paris CNN —The first week of the Olympics and with it comes one of the Games’ signature events: Swimming. Here are five things to watch from this year’s swimming competition in Paris. The back-and-forth will take on new life as Aussie and American swimmers take to the pool and compete to take home the most medals. Bronte Campbell, swimming on the Australian’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay team, told reporters: “I really respect our American competitors. “So that was a really, really special event tonight.”

NANTERRE, France — Léon Marchand touched the wall to win the men’s 400-meter individual medley, letting out a roar and cementing himself in French athletic history forever. His time of 4:02.95 set a new Olympic record, previously held by Michael Phelps, and earned him the first Olympic gold medal of his career. American Chase Kalisz, the Tokyo gold medalist in the event, failed to qualify for the final earlier on Sunday. It’s deafening in here as Léon Marchand is introduced ahead of the 400 IM final. So has his coach, Bob Bowman, who knows a thing or two about this spotlight having coached Michael Phelps throughout the entirety of his illustrious career.

☆ Chase to Bar Customers From Using Credit Cards for ‘Pay Later’ Loans

JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s largest credit card issuer, will bar customers from using its credit cards to repay increasingly popular “buy now, pay later” installment loans. Chase said in an emailed statement that buy now, pay later installment loans “are a form of credit” and that the bank did “not generally allow customers to pay for credit products” with their Chase credit cards. Chase has been alerting customers about the change, which takes effect on Oct. 10, and telling them to link a new form of payment to the pay later accounts to avoid missed payments and possible late fees. Chase is not the first credit card issuer to make the move. Capital One, the fourth-largest card issuer, barred use of its credit cards for pay later loans in late 2020.

CNN —A lightning-sparked wildfire raging in eastern Oregon has scorched nearly 270,000 acres, making it the largest active wildfire in the United States. The massive blaze is the largest of 31 large wildfires currently burning across Oregon, which has been the hardest hit by fires in recent days. Over the weekend and earlier this week, the Durkee Fire exhibited extreme fire behavior, even creating it’s own weather in the form of pyrocumulus clouds. Wildfire smoke, including from the Durkee Fire in Oregon, was spreading into Boise and beyond. A cold front has moved through the area Thursday morning, bringing high temperatures to the 80s on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
