Enterprise data management company Informatica is not currently in talks to be acquired, the company said Monday, after earlier reports suggested that Salesforce was interested in a roughly $10 billion deal. Informatica shares slumped more than 7% on the news, while Salesforce shares rose around 1%. The acquisition would have been Salesforce's largest since the 2021 deal to purchase Slack. Salesforce's investors also reacted negatively to the idea of the deal, sending shares down more than 7% when news of the potential purchase first broke. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff's voracious appetite for mergers and acquisitions was one of the factors that drew a flurry of activists in 2023 seeking to rein in the company's spending.

People pass by the Salesforce Tower and Salesforce.com offices in New York City on March 7, 2019. Salesforce stock fell 5% Monday after reports over the weekend that the cloud software company is in advanced talks to buy data-management firm Informatica. The price being weighed is below Informatica's closing stock price on Friday of $38.48, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the talks on Friday. It would also be its largest deal since purchasing workplace chat developer Slack for nearly $28 billion in 2021, Salesforce's largest acquisition to date. Before paying for Slack, Salesforce bought data visualization company Tableau for $15.3 billion in 2019, and MuleSoft for $6.5 billion in 2018.

Holly Dresden joined Shopify as head of enterprise merchant success in December after six years with Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Evan AgostiniAs it moves further into enterprise, Shopify hasn't always been subtle about zeroing in on Salesforce as a competitor. It recently launched a webpage comparing its platform with Salesforce Commerce Cloud, encouraging merchants to "join the mass migration" of brands moving from Salesforce to Shopify. But winning over enterprise retailers requires a different approach, and it's one where Salesforce has more years of experience than Shopify. Talking the enterprise talkPoaching employees from Salesforce isn't the only way Shopify has made an effort to win over enterprise customers.

Many other business software providers have looked to quickly introduce tools that utilize generative AI, or update their existing ones with it. The utilization of AI more broadly is nothing new for CFOs, with tools like predictive AI being used by most companies to help with core tasks. But this new wave of generative AI presents a different opportunity, and Weaver said the focus on generative AI across industries has frantically increased in the last year. However, he added that there is a challenge when it comes to generative AI tools: creating auditable processes or being able to visually inspect the processes to ensure the data or conclusions are correct. Hrncirik said that the message within Microsoft is that generative AI is a "new skill that we have to develop."

Please note, that Abbott Laboratories is not listed below as we did not own the name before the company's earnings release. Meta Platforms had one of the best earnings reports of the entire season, as sales, earnings, and cash flow trounced expectations. Despite missing earnings expectations, Coterra Energy delivered where it matters most: discretionary and free cash flow. Honeywell 's earnings results weren't great, with sales missing across the board and segment profit results coming up mixed. Given the stock's reaction, one might wonder why we don't think the earnings results from Palo Alto Networks were flat-out ugly.

Growing, rather than maintaining the dividend, is the next big step for tech companies kicking off these payments. About 85% of analysts rate Meta a buy or a strong buy, but they see less than 4% upside from here, per LSEG, formerly known as Refinitiv. Salesforce's board declared a cash dividend of 40 cents per share, payable on April 11 to stockholders of record as of March 14. In all, about 72% of analysts covering Salesforce say it's a buy or a strong buy, and the average price target suggests about 5% upside from here, per LSEG. Nearly two-thirds of analysts covering the stock deem it a buy or a strong buy, and the average price target implies 12% of upside, according to LSEG.

BARCELONA — A top executive at Salesforce says she is "optimistic" that U.S. Congress will make new laws to regulate artificial intelligence soon. She noted that the need to consider guardrails has become a "bipartisan" issue for U.S. lawmakers and highlighted efforts among individual states to devise their own AI laws. "It's very important to ensure U.S. lawmakers can agree on AI laws and work to pass them soon," Goldman told CNBC. And I think it's very important that we have a set of guardrails around the technology," Goldman added. The company laid off 10% of its workforce, which had reached nearly 80,000 employees, last year. AdvertisementJust a year after Salesforce laid off nearly 10% of its workforce, the company's head count is beginning to creep back up. "We're investing into our most productive areas — AI and data," CFO Amy Weaver said this week on the company's fourth-quarter earnings call with investors. The company reported a non-GAAP operating margin of 30.5% for the fiscal year, above the 30% threshold that activist investors had pushed for. New hires, Weaver said, are being added to Salesforce in "cost-effective ways," such as hiring people from areas that have "high talent pools and low cost of living."

However, the company also said it sees single-digit revenue growth for fiscal 2025. UBS reiterated a neutral rating alongside its $310 per share price target on Salesforce, or more than 3% upside ahead. Product revenue growth of 33% year over year in the fourth-quarter was also below Wall Street estimates. Murphy noted there's a disconnect between what Barrick has accomplished in the past five years and its stock price. "We see asset disposals and cost improvements as likely to reverse share price weakness as the market recognizes the strength of the asset portfolio."

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday that his company's Einstein Copilot product is different from other artificial intelligence programs because of the way it uses customer data to make decisions. "We already have tremendous user interfaces at Salesforce," Benioff said. He elaborated, saying Salesforce is built "on a rich fabric of data and metadata," and it serves companies including Amazon , IHG and Schneider Electric . CNBC's Jim Cramer believes Salesforce will benefit from artificial intelligence-fueled momentum when the enterprise software giant reports earnings after the closing bell on Wednesday. Salesforce is "a big user of AI," Cramer said Monday. The company leverages generative AI by analyzing customer data to make predictions about their future behavior. Salesforce, which nearly doubled in 2023, has added another 14% so far this year. The company is one of 32 holdings in Cramer's Charitable Trust , the portfolio used by the CNBC Investing Club.
