The United States on Monday launched its third crackdown in three years on China’s semiconductor industry, curbing exports to 140 companies, including chip equipment maker Naura Technology Group, among other moves. Chinese companies facing new restrictions include nearly two dozen semiconductor companies, two investment companies and over 100 chipmaking tool makers. The companies include Swaysure Technology Co., Si’En Qingdao and Shenzhen Pensun Technology Co., which work with China’s Huawei Technologies. The telecommunications equipment leader has been hobbled by U.S. sanctions and is now at the center of China’s advanced chip production and development. However, it remains years behind chip industry leaders like Nvidia in AI chips and chip equipment maker ASML in the Netherlands.

For roughly a decade after that first auction, he continued to broker deals the conventional way — for American sellers, Aussie-style auctions were a tough sell. Real-estate auctions are a time-honored tradition in Australia, dating back more than 200 years to its days as a British colony. But in times of healthy demand for homes, auctions can deliver benefits for sellers looking to ride out the frenzy. "I don't think the American consumer is ready for auctions yet," says Rob Hahn, the CEO of Decentre Labs, a company he started in 2022 to bring online real-estate auctions to the masses. The biggest beneficiaries, Duby tells me, may just be real-estate agents: When buyers and sellers are shuffled through this murky process, they'll look for a professional guide.

Forty-six percent of Americans say they get less alone time during the holidays, according to a new survey commissioned by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine, released on Tuesday. To figure out whether alone time energizes or depletes you, Durvasula suggests dedicating a full day or weekend to just yourself and observing how it affects your emotions. To unwind while alone, Lazarus suggests activities including journaling, meditating, exercising and listening to music to help replenish yourself and be more present when reconnecting with others. In fact, 36% of people say they are more irritable because they don’t get enough alone time, the survey found. “We often don’t get to turn down the volume on that constant state of social monitoring and social calibration,” Durvasula said.

After a year of impressive gains, CNBC's Jim Cramer reviewed what could make the market falter — namely investors' high hopes for rate cuts from the Federal Reserve. "That's why I'm flagging my biggest worry — that the market might be getting too aggressive with its expectations for rate cuts over the next year." The central bank has cut rates twice this year — by a hefty 50 basis points in September and then by 25 basis points last month. Cramer said he wouldn't be surprised if the Fed decides to "slow down with the rate cuts" because the economy seems solid. "The market's betting on a December rate cut," he said.

South Korea's inflation rate climbed in November to 1.5% year on year, from a 45-month low in October, as the country grapples with a weakening Korean won and slowing exports. Last Thursday, South Korea's central bank unexpectedly cut rates by 25 basis points to 3%, marking the first time that the Bank of Korea had enacted two back-to-back cuts since 2009. South Korea narrowly avoided a technical recession in the third quarter, with GDP growing 0.1% quarter on quarter, according to the bank's advance estimates, following a contraction of 0.2% in the second quarter. South Korea's currency has weakened against the greenback over October and November, hitting a two-year high of 1,411.31 as tariff fears from the incoming Trump administration take hold. But sometimes, you simply can't give your child exactly what they want in a given moment — and that's a good thing, according to a child psychologist. Parents who say "yes" to their kids too often— whether reflexively or as an attempt to avoid tantrums — actually do their children a disservice in the long run, Kennedy said. By giving in too easily, you can inadvertently damage necessary boundaries that help children learn appropriate, respectful behavior, she added. "In fact, I would argue, it almost becomes dangerous for our kids to conflate being valued with getting what they want."
