In his new film, “Kinds of Kindness,” though, Yorgos Lanthimos goes further. Jesse Plemons is Robert in Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film, “Kinds of Kindness." Workplace harassment is a pervasive problem in a huge range of professions, from farm work to domestic labor to Hollywood itself. Remote work saves companies money by reducing rent and relocation costs, and because workers who work from home are more satisfied with fewer pay raises. People in “Kinds of Kindness” are pushed to mistake domination for kindness.

Homebuyers are expressing a desire for smaller homes, whether as a compromise given high prices or because they simply want a smaller space, experts say. The typical buyer today wants a 2,067-square-foot home, according to the NAHB's 2024 What Home Buyers Really Want study. "They may not need 2,000 square feet or even want that for themselves," she said. About 28% of polled buyers recently purchased a home between the sizes of 1,501 to 2,000 square feet; while 26%, purchased a home between 2,001 to 2,500 square feet, according to the NAR's 2024 Home Buyers and Sellers Generational Trends Report. How zoning influences home sizesAbout 38% of builders say they built smaller homes in 2023 and 26% plan to build even smaller homes this year, according to NAHB.

This US Navy warship, at well over 200 years old, is not like the sea service's other ships, though. When it sets sail, the tall ship moves slowly, escorted by police boats and the Coast Guard and helicopters circling overhead. Today, it consists of three officers and around 80 enlisted Navy sailors — a mix of fleet returnees, meaning they've done previous tours, and individuals straight from boot camp. Leopatrizi | E+ | Getty ImagesMore built-for-rent single-family homes are being constructed in the U.S., according to the National Association of Home Builders, and experts say this is in part due to the housing affordability crisis. Construction began on about 18,000 single-family, built-for-rent homes in the first quarter of 2024, a 20% jump compared with the first quarter of 2023, according to NAHB, which analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Quarterly Starts and Completions by Purpose and Design. Single-family built-for-rent starts grew to 90,000 units in 2023, up from 81,000 units in 2022, the National Association of Realtors reported. The growing share of built-for-rent single-family homes is a response to demand from "people who can't afford today's very expensive, out-of-reach housing market," Lautz said. Homeowners are also responsible for shouldering "hidden costs" that aren't figured into a mortgage payment, such as maintenance, repairs, taxes and insurance.

At about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a federal prosecutor, Derek Hines, brandished the headliner in question — Mr. Biden’s notorious laptop, a silver Apple MacBook Pro encased in a plastic cover. He waggled it about with his left hand while reminding a government witness, Erika Jensen, an F.B.I. special agent, of all the data that had been seized during the Department of Justice’s investigation of Mr. Biden. The jurors and courtroom spectators gazed at government Exhibit 16 as if expecting sparks to fly from it. Three seconds later, Mr. Hines returned the laptop to the prosecutors’ table, soon to be buried under a heap of other government evidence.

At some point during a routine seven-hour trip from his Oregon district to Washington, Representative Earl Blumenauer, 75, a Democrat who has served in Congress for almost three decades, experienced a depressing epiphany. “I distinctly recall crawling on yet another plane to come back for yet another vote that made absolutely no difference and was going absolutely nowhere,” he said in an interview. “And I had this singular experience of asking myself, ‘Why would you do this?’”Mr. Blumenauer’s moment of truth was in fact far from singular. A total of 54 House members, or about one-eighth of the total body, will not be seeking another term this November. As a matter of sheer numbers, the exodus is not history-making.

CNN —CNN Opinion asked our contributors to weigh in on Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Are there really that many voters whose view of Trump as a man, or politician, could be altered by bookkeeping irregularities? How many would-be Trump voters will be swayed against him because of miscategorized business expenses? Instead of validating Trump’s narcissism, Democrats should turn the camera away from Trump and toward the American people. Democrats should make the case that Trump’s policies would decimate the middle class and that ought to be a (metaphorical) crime.

At the heart of the criminal case against Trump was a payment prosecutors said was designed to influence the 2016 election. Trump repaid Cohen with a series of checks in 2017, once he was already president, prosecutors alleged. The verdict follows the first-ever criminal trial of a former American president. Biden did not want to feed Trump’s feverish charge that he was the cause of the former president’s myriad legal problems. But Biden and his campaign has mostly gone for the capillary, not the jugular. (It’s also a little bewildering why Team Biden, struggling with younger voters, cast De Niro as its point man here. Navigating Trump’s legal thicket has been a challenge for Biden from the start. Predictably, the Trump campaign jumped all over Tuesday’s events, accusing the Biden campaign of desperation and jury tampering.

CNN —Donald Trump, who built a mystique as the brash epitome of power, has never been more powerless to dictate his own fate. In order to convict Trump, jurors must first decide that he falsified financial documents and did so with the express purpose of committing another crime. That was evidenced, today by the Biden campaign themselves holding a rally here,” Don Trump Jr. said. “You cannot convict President Trump,” Blanche said, before repeating himself for emphasis while impressing on the jury the gravity of the historic deliberation that lies before them. “You may say, who cares if Mr. Trump slept with a porn star 10 years before the 2016 election?

Immediately following the Biden campaign event, Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller accused Biden of employing a "washed-up actor" to campaign for him in a Hail Mary attempt to reverse Trump's narrow lead in 2024 election polls. The De Niro event marks the first time the Biden campaign has appeared outside Trump's trial, which began more than five weeks ago. As the criminal trial winds down, the president's reelection campaign is planning to crank up its attacks on Trump, NBC News reported Friday. Normally, seeing your presidential opponent convicted of a felony would be a cause for celebration. At the same time, many Democrats are aghast at the idea that Mr. Trump could become a felon and the Biden campaign would not do everything in its power to remind voters of that fact. This tension will define the Democratic reaction if a Manhattan jury indeed convicts Mr. Trump in the coming days, an outcome that could land like a thunderbolt for the nation’s news media and political class. On Tuesday, the Biden campaign flashed its hand, holding a news conference outside the Manhattan courthouse where Mr. Trump is standing trial that featured Robert De Niro and two former U.S. Capitol Police officers. The Trump campaign was quick to accuse Mr. Biden of pulling a political stunt.
