It's one of the surprising revelations in Willie Nelson 's new book, “Energy Follows Thought: The Stories Behind My Songs,” an examination of the 90-year-old country legend and soon-to-be Rock & Roll Hall of Famer 's seven decades of songwriting. “The melodies are easier to write than the words,” Nelson told The Associated Press in an interview ahead of Tuesday's release of his book. “I don’t write as much as I used to,” he told the AP. And on Friday, the same week the book is released, he'll be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “You can get rock ‘n’ roll in country, rock and roll in any kind of music,” he said.

Markets could remain under pressure through the end of the year, and high dividend stocks are one option to help investors through the uncertainty, according to Morgan Stanley. Investors are also assessing pressures on the market driven by the surprise attack on Israel by Palestinian militant group Hamas over the weekend. To play another potential breakdown in the market, Morgan Stanley highlighted several dividend stocks that combine yield (how much a company pays out in dividends each year), dividend growth (how much that dividend grows over a period of time) and stability, and that look attractive on a three- to five-year basis. Morgan Stanley projects yields of 9.6% for Energy Transfer in 2024 and 9.9% for MPLX, a master limited partnership created out of Marathon Petroleum that operates crude oil and refined product pipelines. The bank's preference in tobacco is Philip Morris , whose 2024 dividend yield could be 5.5%, according to Morgan Stanley.

Five hotels in West Maui were accepting reservations again, according to their websites and the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association. Many local residents have objected to resuming tourism in West Maui, which includes Lahaina town and a stretch of coastline to the north. Thousands of tourists staying in beachfront hotels north of the burn zone left Maui in the days after the fire. Some 11,000 hotel rooms in West Maui have since either sat empty or housed displaced Lahaina residents under a program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross. Four of the five reopening hotels were in the northernmost section of West Maui, including the Ritz-Carlton at Kapalua.

Reception room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New York City, ca. Photo: Museum of the City of New York/Bridgeman ImagesIn one of his epigraphs to this compact book on F. Scott Fitzgerald, Arthur Krystal invokes Lytton Strachey’s advice to the successful biographer: Instead of the “direct method of a scrupulous narration,” the biographer must “attack his subject in unexpected places; he will fall upon the flank or the rear; he will shoot a sudden, revealing searchlight into obscure recesses, hitherto undivined.” The evocation of Strachey in connection with Fitzgerald is surprising since they seem an unlikely pair, but Mr. Krystal quotes him in order to distinguish “Some Unfinished Chaos: The Lives of F. Scott Fitzgerald” from the always-growing list of Fitzgerald biographies that began in 1951, with Arthur Mizener’s “The Far Side of Paradise.” In choosing the plural “Lives,” Mr. Krystal wants to open up his subject to multiple interpretations rather than opting for the “direct method” of settling on the singular explanatory one. His other epigraph is from Fitzgerald himself: “There never was a good biography of a good novelist. There couldn’t be. He’s too many people if he’s any good.”

His death was confirmed on Friday in a statement by the Fulham Football Club in Britain, of which Mr. Fayed was a former owner. Forbes estimated his net worth at $2 billion this year, ranking his wealth as 1,516th in the world. In a sense, Mr. Fayed was a citizen of the world. Al-Fayed for decades insisted the pair were murdered, despite inquiries finding otherwise, and was scornful towards the British royal family in his later life. After 1997, when a car crash claimed the lives of his son and Diana, Al-Fayed would frequently sling insults at the British royal family and became persona non grata among parts of the country’s elite. Al-Fayed was questioned by police in 2008 in relation to a sex assault allegation that he denied, a Harrods spokesperson said at the time. He eventually sold the store to the Qatari royal family in 2010, for a reported $2.25 billion. Al-Fayed had six children, including Dodi and the environmentalist entrepreneur Omar Fayed.
