What to expectThe Republican caucuses begin at 8 p.m. Eastern time at hundreds of precinct locations across the state. Voters must appear in person (except for some overseas and military voters) and be registered with the party, though same-day registration is allowed. After the results are tallied, they are read aloud before being sent to the state party. In 2016, precincts began reporting results just after 8:30 p.m. Eastern time, and nearly all results were in by 12:50 a.m. Eastern time. The state’s 40 delegates (just 1.6 percent of Republican delegates nationwide) will be allocated to candidates proportionally based on the final vote count.

The battle to win the Republican Iowa caucus is the most expensive on record, with over $120 million spent on ads by the campaigns and their affiliated political action committees in the Hawkeye State, according to data provided to CNBC by AdImpact. Around $84 million of the $120 million total ad buys came from campaigns and allies of the top three candidates, Trump, Haley and Florida. DeSantis' campaign and two outside allies have spent a combined $30 million on TV, digital, and radio ads in Iowa. One of the two DeSantis super PACs, Never Back Down, has knocked on over 915,000 doors in the Iowa, according to the organization. As for Trump's super PAC, MAGA Inc. would not provide data on what efforts they've made outside of their ad spending in support of the former president.

Iowa may not have many voters or delegates, but the first-in-the-nation caucuses always attract a media frenzy. But tonight, Iowa voters seem likely to choose Donald J. And she certainly doesn’t care if they bicker about politics. 245) in southwest Iowa appears to be the last practitioner of a disappearing tradition: hosting precinct meetings in a private home for the Iowa presidential caucuses, which this year will kick off the 2024 Republican nominating process. But a review of the locations where the 1,657 GOP precinct meetings are to be held revealed McNutt’s residence as a one-of-a-kind venue, something a state GOP spokesman confirmed. This is the third time that I’ve really closely covered these races. I do think the weather is an election story, but it’s hard to know exactly what it means. I’ve heard people say that because it’s so cold, there are Trump voters who are going to say, eh, he’s going to win it anyway. That’s really cold. Ron DeSantis have invested in appealing to politically influential evangelicals, making the fight for northwest Iowa a microcosm of the race to win Monday's caucuses. DeSantis has spent long hours courting voters here, stopping Thursday in Rock Rapids, population 2,600, before heading to Le Mars, about four times larger. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, with his social conservative brand, competed strongly for northwest Iowa in 2016 and edged Trump in the region on his way to a narrow caucus victory. COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley pushed across ice-cold Iowa Saturday to find voters open to an alternative to former President Donald Trump with just two days before the state's caucuses open the Republican primary calendar. DeSantis in particular is under great pressure in Iowa given his campaign's heavy bet on a strong finish in the caucuses. The final poll from Iowa’s premier pollster, Ann Selzer, has Trump at 48% followed by former South Carolina Gov. If the final outcome Monday night mirrors the poll, Trump will have won the highest Iowa GOP caucus vote share for a non-incumbent ever. A Haley win in the first primary race in the nation would indicate that Trump is not invincible. He did more than 5 points better than where his final Iowa poll had him. (His 28-point margin over Bradley was the same as the final poll found, as both Bradley and Gore won some undecided voters.)

CNN —Former President Donald Trump holds a wide lead over his Republican presidential competitors among likely GOP caucusgoers in Iowa, the final Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll before Monday’s caucuses found. Overall, 48% of likely caucusgoers say Trump would be their first choice, 20% name former South Carolina Gov. While majorities of their supporters say they are enthusiastic about their candidates, only about 4 in 10 of hers say the same. About 8 in 10 Trump supporters – 82% – say their minds are made up, up from December when 70% said they were locked in. Results for the full sample of likely caucusgoers has an error margin of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
