“You walk in, you say, ‘You want to quit?’ They go on strike,” Trump said of Musk, who is CEO of the EV car maker Tesla and SpaceX. It is illegal to fire workers who threaten to strike, because the right to strike is protected under federal labor law. “When we say Donald Trump is a scab, this is what we mean,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in a Tuesday statement on the new charges. But another major U.S. labor union, the Teamsters, has yet to make an endorsement. Tesla has clashed with union proponents for years, and Tesla workers remain without a union.

Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump speaks during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate on August 08, 2024, in Palm Beach, Florida. "The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see: It's fewer insults, more insights and that policy contrast," Kellyanne Conway, a former Trump White House advisor, said Monday in a Fox News interview. "When Trump attacks Harris personally rather than on policy, Harris' support among swing voters rises, particularly among women. It's just a fact of life, right now," Peter Navarro, a former Trump White House aide, said on the conservative WarRoom podcast Monday. "You've got to make this race not on personalities," former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said earlier Monday in an interview on Fox News.

Shortly after 8:20 p.m., Musk, the billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO, blamed a cyberattack for the freezing screens. As the evening went on and the platform struggled to resolve the technical issue, Musk said that the interview would proceed at 8:30 E.T. "This massive attack illustrates there's a lot of opposition to people just hearing what President Trump has to say, but I'm honored to have this conversation," Musk said. In response to CNBC's request for comment about the technical delay, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung pointed to Musk's X post blaming a potential cyberattack. U.S. Vice President and Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaks to supporters during a campaign rally in Romulus, Michigan, U.S., August 7, 2024. Former President Donald Trump on Sunday falsely accused his November election opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, of using AI technology to fabricate images of the crowd sizes at her rallies, amplifying an unfounded conspiracy to explain the strong enthusiasm for the new Democratic ticket. The Harris campaign rejected the accusation, maintaining that the image is "an actual photo of a 15,000-person crowd for Harris-Walz in Michigan." But Trump's peddling of the conspiracy was among several social media tirades against Harris over this weekend. Last week, the Harris campaign organized a barnstorming of seven battleground states across the country, though several of those stops were postponed due to inclement weather.

Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to eliminate taxes on tips in the service and hospitality sectors if she wins the presidency, echoing the same proposal former President Donald Trump announced months earlier. The proposal came a day after the Culinary Workers Union, a major labor group in Nevada, endorsed Harris. Trump quickly took to social media to claim credit for the proposal, which he put forward in June at his own Las Vegas rally. "[Harris] has no imagination, whatsoever, as shown by the fact that she played 'COPYCAT' with, NO TAXES ON TIPS!" Banning taxes on tips would require new legislation and congressional approval, which a Harris campaign official later acknowledged.

U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaks at her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 22, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris is catching up to former President Donald Trump on the number of voters who trust her handling of the economy, according to a new Financial Times/Michigan Ross poll. The monthly survey found that 42% of voters trust Harris on economic issues, one percentage point more than the Republican presidential nominee. The most recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey, for example, found voters think they will be financially better off under Trump than Harris by a 2-to-1 margin. Trump often seizes on voters' economic pessimism as a political tactic, working to turn economic danger signs into narratives of full-blown catastrophe, attributable to the Biden-Harris administration's policies.

Vice President Kamala Harris would prioritize small business growth and large industry competition in shaping her own antitrust and regulatory policy if she wins the presidency in November, Maryland's Democratic Gov. A pro-growth, pro-competition approach to business in a potential Harris administration would mark a striking divergence from the aggressive trust-busting and merger-skeptical principles that have shaped the Biden administration's regulatory agenda. "As the vice president is thinking about a future-facing administration, there are going to be different dynamics that are going to require different philosophies," said Moore. "There will be different sociopolitical and just political dynamics that is going to require a different set, a different lens and a different vision." But his comments could feed the hopes of Wall Street dealmakers who are already optimistic that a potential Harris administration — while firmly rooted in progressive economic traditions — might deprioritize the aggressive antitrust regime that has been a trademark of Biden's presidency.

Nearly 30 GOP members were cited as part of the new "Republicans for Harris" initiative launched Sunday. These include Stephanie Grisham, former White House press secretary under Trump, and national security official Olivia Troye — who worked as Vice President Mike Pence's national security advisor. By publicly defecting on the Republican presidential nominee, these officials leave a target on their back for attacks from Trump. U.S. Supreme Court Justices attend as U.S. President Joe Biden delivers the State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., March 7, 2024. President Joe Biden on Monday unveiled a three-pronged proposal to reform the Supreme Court, a policy area that he said will be a focus of his remaining months in office. Biden's proposed ethics code comes after several Supreme Court justices, including Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, were caught in scandals involving undisclosed financial gifts that posed major conflicts of interest. As he works to cement his legacy in the just under six months he has left as president, Biden said that overhauling the Supreme Court will be a priority. "I'm going to call for Supreme Court reform because this is critical to our democracy," Biden said in a national address from the Oval Office last Wednesday.
