It should put a damper on just how much we should expect the next president to accomplish, especially if the divide is between the House and the White House. There’s a big difference in just how divided government becomes, depending on whether the House and the White House are controlled by the same party or different parties. Two words send chills down the spine of any presidents who find the “other” party in control of the House: subpoena power. Both Trump and Joe Biden saw the second halves of their terms (after they lost control of the House) essentially paralyzed by an oppositional House. First, because California House races will determine overall House control, it could take as much as two or three weeks before we know the makeup of Congress in 2025 for sure.

Roberts was shaken by the adverse public reaction to his decision affording Trump substantial immunity from criminal prosecution. The Roberts Court has been in sync with the GOP political agenda largely because of decisions the chief justice has authored: For Trump and other Republicans. But the politically charged valence deepened in the justices’ resolution of the case against former President Trump on election-interference charges from 2020. Harvard Law School professor Richard Lazarus, a longtime friend of Roberts, spent time with him in July immediately after the Trump decision was issued.

Assuming the Senate continues confirming pending nominees when it returns in November, the next president is poised to inherit the smallest number of judicial vacancies since when George H.W. 'Set their sights on getting judges confirmed'The amount of judicial vacancies at any one time is fluid and can rise or fall based on circumstances. The US Small Business Administration said in July that there were nearly 35 million small businesses in the US. Fewer than two-thirds of small businesses in the US in 2022 were profitable, and over a million businesses of all sizes close each year. Traditionally, small businesses were family businesses, and the eldest male child was expected to take it over when the patriarch was ready to step down. Buying up small businesses allows people without wealthy boomer parents to cash in on the trillions of dollars of wealth the generation is sitting on.
