Kim returned home from a weeklong trip to Russia last week in which he and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to boost military and economic cooperation. On Wednesday, Kim briefed the party central committee's powerful politburo on his visit, and participants explored ways to "practically and comprehensively" implement its results and "constructive," long-term measures for developing relations with Russia, KCNA said. Seoul and Washington have expressed concern that Russia could be trying to acquire ammunition from North Korea to supplement its thinning stockpiles amid its war in Ukraine, while Pyongyang seeks technological help for its nuclear and missile programs.

Hong Kong (CNN) -- A promotional video by a state-owned railway in China that asked women to refrain from putting on makeup during train journeys has sparked a fierce backlash and a debate about sexism. On Saturday, the clip by China Railway was the most searched, most read and most debated item on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like social media platform – two months after it was originally posted. “Why does it have to be such a gender-focused case, of women putting on makeup, to illustrate uncivilized behavior?” one Weibo user asked. Another asked, “Will the next move involve banning women on trains once and for all?”CNN has reached out to China Railway for a comment. MOSCOW, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Russia said Ukrainian drones had struck three separate regions on Sunday, injuring five people and forcing two of Moscow's airports to briefly divert flights. Russia's Kursk and Rostov regions, both of which border Ukraine, reported drone strikes while Russia's defence ministry said it had jammed a Ukrainian drone in the Moscow region, forcing it to crash in an unpopulated area. Kursk region's governor said that 5 people had been injured and a fire broke out when a drone hit a railway station. Ukrainian drone strikes both on border regions and on the Russian capital have become increasingly common in recent months, with repeated strikes on Moscow's financial district. Russia said in May that two Ukrainian drones tried to attack the Kremlin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday vowed stern retaliation for a Russian missile strike in the center of the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv that killed seven people and wounded almost 150 others the day before. He identified a 6-year-old girl named Sofia as among the dead in the attack and confirmed that the wounded included 15 children. Meanwhile, Russian air defenses jammed a drone flying towards Moscow early Sunday causing it to crash. Later on Sunday, Starovoit reported that a drone attack on an electrical substation on Saturday had left over 5,500 people in two districts without power, which was later restored. Successful strikes have exposed the vulnerabilities of Moscow's air defense systems.
