While Trump insists he's sticking with Vance, the senator's poor polling combined with Vice President Kamala Harris' momentum has led some to ask: Could Trump replace Vance? The Democratic and Republican National Committees have separate rules governing how they fill vacancies of presidential or vice presidential nominees. Related stories"I think sometimes what people forget is that people start voting in September," Dacey told Business Insider. It would be, he said, "extraordinarily disruptive" both logistically and politically to replace Vance as the vice presidential nominee. In 2020, there were rumors he would replace former Vice President Mike Pence on his ticket.

CNN —Rudy Giuliani’s trip to Milwaukee for last week’s Republican National Convention was bankrolled by the media platform started by “My Pillow Guy” Mike Lindell, Giuliani’s lawyer told a bankruptcy court that is scrutinizing the former New York City mayor’s finances. Lindell told CNN on Tuesday that Giuliani is an employee of the media company, but declined to say how much he was being paid for the job, which he said started July 1. Judge Sean Lane of the federal bankruptcy court in White Plains, New York, is expected to issue a ruling any day on how to move forward. Lindell told CNN on Tuesday that he paid for Giuliani’s travel because the former New York mayor was hired on July 1 as a host for Lindell’s right-wing broadcast platform, FrankSpeech TV. Giuliani said he had “no regrets at all” about how he treated Moss and Freeman during the 2020 election.

CNN —The Trump campaign on Tuesday filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission arguing money raised for President Joe Biden’s reelection bid cannot be transferred to Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. But, he added, “that doesn’t mean it can’t get tied up in FEC proceedings for years.”An FEC spokesperson declined to comment, citing the agency’s policy on not discussing enforcement matters. “If President Biden is committed to passing the torch to his vice president, and wants to be able to seed her campaign with the current Biden for President campaign war chest, he’ll first have to become his party’s legal nominee,” Spies wrote in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal before Biden’s exit from the race. And Federal Election Commissioner Dara Lindenbaum, a Democrat viewed as a swing vote on the evenly divided commission, has said Harris could access what Biden raised through the campaign committee because it is registered for both the president and vice president. Lindenbaum wrote on X, “If Kamala Harris becomes the Democratic Party nominee, she gets access to the Joe Biden campaign funds.”This story has been updated with additional reporting.

The Secret Service denied some of former President Donald Trump's requests for additional security resources over the past two years, an official with the agency confirmed to NBC News. The Secret Service official said extra security accommodations could not always be made for Trump due to the department's limited resources. "In some instances where specific Secret Service specialized units or resources were not provided, the agency made modifications to ensure the security of the protectee," Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told NBC News. Last Sunday, he said the assertion that the Secret Service had rebuffed Trump's team's requests for additional security were "absolutely false." In the wake of the attempted assassination of Trump, the Secret Service has been under intense scrutiny.

But while some pundits have argued his speech showed he is more subdued and humble in the wake of last week's failed assassination attempt against him, others aren't so sure he's changed at all. And some political scientists and experts on authoritarianism warn Trump could become even more radical after his near-death experience. We are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all," Trump told the RNC crowd as he briefly read messages promoting unity from a teleprompter. Not everyone is certain Trump will change much in the wake of his assassination attempt — for better or for worse. If the assassination attempt does change Trump, the effects may not be immediately apparent — though they are worth being on the lookout for.

“2024 is the first American presidential election year at this intersection of election-related mis- and disinformation and the rapid growth of AI generated content. Misinformation spread rapidly through Pennsylvania during the 2020 election as the swing state faced baseless allegations about voting in Pennsylvania, perceived unfairness toward Republican poll-watchers and violations of election rules. Sabir said the misinformation fighting efforts will target voters where they are, including social media, billboards and radio ads. Fontes was recognized in May for his office’s work creating election security tabletop training exercises aimed to protect the state’s election infrastructure. Trump has long been known for the brash, even vulgar way he sometimes speaks about women. “President Trump championed my journey, empowering me to be who I became today,” Habba said. “The media’s negative portrayal of President Trump and his treatment of women is entirely false,” Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s national press secretary, said in a statement. “Every attack on President Trump only strengthens our movement,” said Habba, who represented Trump in the Carroll defamation suit. “Sham indictments and baseless allegations will not deter us, because the only crime President Trump has committed is loving America.”

CNN —On a night Republicans projected bravado around their 2024 presidential ticket, Donald Trump started his prime-time address by displaying a rare vulnerability. The former president’s son Eric Trump delivered conservative red meat, much like his brother Donald Trump Jr. had a night earlier. Little mention of Biden (by name)Trump said Thursday night that he would use Biden’s name only once. Thursday night, CNN reported that many senior-ranking White House and campaign officials now privately believe that Biden must abandon his campaign for a second term – and soon. And especially so on its final night, when the politicians mostly gave way to right-leaning celebrities.
