It is getting to the point that I’ve considered firing them as a client, but I love their mission — and the work itself is very interesting. You can also tactfully share your concerns with your main contact, outlining how the transitional chaos is complicating your work. I consistently encounter one employee wearing her lab coat completely unbuttoned and wearing a cropped tube top underneath. Safety policies exist for a reason, and asking someone to follow those policies is ensuring that the workplace stays safe and helps to avoid sanctions and/or fines. Part of your job is to pay attention to how your team is adhering to safety policies.

The majority of hiring managers (88%) place a higher value on hard skills than soft skills or work history when vetting resumes, according to new research from ResumeGenius, which surveyed over 800 managers. Information technology (IT) skills, such as blockchain, AI and cybersecurity, are the most in-demand hard skills that employers are hiring for. Here are the top 3 in-demand hard skills employers want to see on your resume, according to Resume Genius:IT skillsSoftware developmentData analysisHard skills have always been an important consideration in hiring decisions, but they've become "an even bigger priority" for companies since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 and the AI hype that followed, says Eva Chan, a certified professional resume writer and senior digital PR writer at Resume Genius. The most important thing to keep in mind when including hard skills on your resume, or mentioning them in a job interview, Chan says, is to be specific and provide clear examples. "Including hard skills on your resume ultimately tells any employer that you're adaptable, open and able to learn new skills quickly," says Chan.

Meant as a sly swipe at the inflated hype around artificial intelligence, a billboard at a construction site in Antwerp, Belgium, in June read “Hey ChatGPT, finish this building.”Artificial intelligence, the technology that powers chatbots like ChatGPT, won’t be assembling apartments or erecting stadiums any time soon, but in construction — an industry stereotypically known for clipboards and Excel spreadsheets — the rapid embrace of the technology may change how quickly projects are finished. Drones, cameras, mobile apps and even some robots are increasingly mapping real-time progress on sprawling job sites, giving builders and contractors the ability to track and improve a project’s performance. “Forget about robots building a skyscraper,” said James Swanston, chief executive of Voyage Control, which makes project management software for construction sites. “It’s a more fundamental thing, getting the data you need and then using it better.”

In a work-from-anywhere job, employees are 100% remote, independent of location or time zone. Such jobs, however, are rare to find and increasingly competitive to land, only accounting for about 5% of all remote roles, FlexJobs, a remote and hybrid job search platform, reports. Most remote jobs have geographic requirements, mainly due to state and federal regulations that dictate where companies can hire people and do business. To help job-seekers find the best remote, flexible gigs, FlexJobs has identified the most in-demand work-from-anywhere jobs companies are hiring for by analyzing its database for the work-from-anywhere jobs with the highest volume of postings between January and June 2023. FlexJobs has also noticed more companies advertising work-from-anywhere roles this year compared to 2022, Spencer adds, in industries like marketing and gaming.

I focused on a client nicheI started working as a virtual assistant in January 2021. I connected with clients organically on InstagramI put all my time and effort into making my Instagram profile engaging. I'd find clients I wanted to work with and comment on their posts and respond to their Instagram stories. I'd have about five or six clients on the go at a time, and I'd work for each one every day. With each client, I'd explain on the call that I had a minimum length of four months for each contract.

Australian firm sues Twitter for $665,000 for not paying bills

SYDNEY, July 3 (Reuters) - An Australian project management firm has filed a lawsuit against Twitter Inc in a U.S. court seeking cumulative payments of about A$1 million ($665,000) over alleged non-payment of bills for work done in four countries, court filings showed. The Australian firm's lawsuit is the latest alleging non-payment of bills and rent against Twitter since Elon Musk bought the social media platform for $44 billion last year. For those works, Twitter owed the company about 203,000 pounds, S$546,600 and A$61,300, respectively, Facilitate said. In May, a former public relations firm filed a suit in a New York court saying Twitter had not paid its bills, while early this year U.S.-based advisory firm Innisfree M&A Inc sued it, seeking about $1.9 million for what it said were unpaid bills after it advised Twitter on its acquisition by Musk. An Australian project management company is suing Twitter for around $700,000 of unpaid bills. That includes work fitting-out Twitter's Singapore office, and clearing out its Australian one. Twitter is facing another lawsuit accusing it of not paying bills — including for work clearing out the company's Australian office. That's a week before its first round of mass layoffs affected the Singapore office, Insider previously reported. The London office has already been involved in another lawsuit, as the landlord — King Charles III's Crown Estate — accused Twitter of failing to pay rent.

InsiderThe film industry has a sustainability problem, and it's massive: The average tentpole production — a film with a budget over $70 million — generates 2,840 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the British Film Institute reported. Yawger saw raw materials from industry waste transform into items such as tables, outdoor furniture, bowls, and benches. "It revealed the film industry was the second most polluting behind aerospace," Jennifer Sandoval, the director of service development at Earth Angel, told Insider. "Plastic and trash are very visible in the film industry, and people can understand why we need to change things," Yawger said. These changes might help drive a more climate-conscious narrative or simply enable Earth Angel to swap out a character's plastic water bottle for a reusable one.

For organizations that are ready to move past temporary remote or hybrid work arrangements, remote work "maturity" is the final step. Companies with highly effective documentation are more than twice as likely to report that their company maximizes the positives of remote work, according to the Gusto Hybrid Work Playbook. For early remote work adopters, rigorous documentation has been key from the beginning. Nearly half of companies who report having clear goals say remote or hybrid work has been positive for company performance. Reeder says while tools can help make remote work more effective, leaders should not use software to mask inefficiencies.

In a response to Reuters questions, South Africa's national treasury said it, along with President Cyril Ramaphosa's office, had appointed a consultant that it did not name to find ways to resolve the issue. It would also allow the decommissioning of three power plants, which the government is considering delaying because of the shortages of generation capacity. Rudi Dicks, the head of project management at the South African presidency, said there was a need to "clarify as a matter of urgency" whether the international loans could be accepted. Of the $8.5 billion pledged to South Africa, $3 billion is from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), a leading multilateral investor in developing countries. In a statement it said it remained "committed to supporting South Africa's just transition from coal to clean power".

Time batching is a technique where you group related tasks together to avoid mentally moving in between different tasks. Time batching is one of the ways in which you can manage your time and focus levels to improve your productivity and performance rate. Through time batching, you can eliminate multitasking, which impedes productivity by reducing your attention and dedication to your performance. Also, other activities which may be seen as distractions from attaining your goal within your timeline will be eliminated or reduced, which enhances deep work focus. The simplest part of this productivity process is starting your time-batching journey.

Tech workers on Blind are discussing ways to find "low pressure" jobs. Some tech workers said they'd be willing to take lower pay in exchange for less stress. The golden era of tech is on its way out as tech workers continue to face mass layoffs. Earlier this week, a Meta worker posted on the anonymous job site Blind asking peers if they had any ideas for "low-pressure jobs." Other workers on Blind expressed similar anxieties, and several tech workers said they'd be willing to accept much lower pay to work in a less stressful environment.

Americans have been moving to Portugal for years, and the pandemic accelerated the trend further. The Bagbys are part of a wave of Americans who have moved to Portugal, a country roughly the size of Indiana. "It's a very reasonable cost of living," Zaretsky told Insider. Zaretsky paid 600,000 euros for the house in Portugal after selling her Austin, Texas, home for $676,000. Portugal has a strong tourism economy, and its shoulder season draws large crowds, making the petite coastal country feel tight.
Kevin O'Leary said he doesn't believe remote work is "morally wrong" and sees it as a cost-saver. "Shark Tank" star Kevin O'Leary says he doesn't agree with Elon Musk when it comes to the debate on remote work — he actually prefers the employees at his 54 companies work from home. "You can't tell me this doesn't work," O'Leary said, during an interview with CNN on Thursday. Though, the investor said he could understand why Musk would be against remote work at businesses like Tesla and SpaceX. While tech workers have spoken out against Musk's comments on remote work, other tech companies have also taken similar steps to bring workers back to in-person work.
Even as companies make hefty investments into AI, most workers have yet to use AI — with "only 1 in 10" globally saying their day-to-day role currently involves AI skills, said Salesforce. Skills leaders wantPeople leaders said "data security skills, ethical AI and automation skills, and programming skills" will become increasingly important in the workplace, according to Salesforce. Only 14% say their role involves other related digital skills such as encryption and cybersecurity, and 13% claim to use coding and app development skills. "But even for this industry, less than a third of employees use AI skills within their role today," Salesforce added. As for Singapore, the industry that ranked highest for the application of AI skills was manufacturing — even though only 21% say they use AI skills within their role.
LONDON, May 17 (Reuters) - Planisware is working with investment bankers on strategic options, including a stock market listing of the French software group, four people familiar with the matter told Reuters. Rothschild (ROTH.PA) is acting as financial adviser to Planisware, two of the people, who declined to be named, said. BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) and Citigroup (C.N) have been lined up to arrange a possible initial public offering (IPO), one person added. Private equity group Ardian, which holds an undisclosed stake in Planisware through its growth capital arm, declined to comment. In France, IPO volumes plunged in 2022 to levels similar to the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Man Group's <develop> program is growing in popularity among non-tech workers. That's the thinking behind Man Group's technology upskilling program, <develop>, which has served as the $144 billion investment firm's answer to a tight tech-labor market. "The level of demand for software engineers outstripped the number of qualified engineers entering the workforce each year," Lara Carty, Man Group's chief people officer, told Insider. It's also spanned a variety of backgrounds, from workers on the trading desk to communications and public-relations employees, Carty said. There's classroom-based learning led by about a dozen of Man Group's top engineers with a mentorship aspect.
A new C-suite role of chief AI officer is comingAsha Palmer, senior vice president of compliance solutions at digital learning platform Skillsoft, says every C-suite has executives who oversee privacy and data, so AI could prompt the creation of a chief AI officer and entire departments overseeing AI security. As AI takes off, a chief AI officer will be a key decision maker over tech priorities that filter down through the organization. Companies need to take precaution and set up guardrails to oversee AI use, Palmer said, and that starts with training employees on how to use chatbots and generative AI. "For companies using or buying AI, they should ask AI companies what their transparency metrics are, how often they audit and check these, and ask them to make this information public facing." Office workers face a challenge, but it is the roles in middle management, specifically, he said, "where it's ambiguous how AI will impact them."
