And they are long-shot races, especially during a presidential election, when ticket-splitting isn’t as common as it used to be. In Florida and Texas, Democrats are focusing on state abortion bans to try to push beyond their recent losses in those states. Cruz’s campaign spent almost $5 million on ads in September and $4 million in the first 10 days of October. But the surveys also reveal a noticeable gap in support between the pro-abortion rights amendments and the Democratic presidential and Senate candidates who are campaigning on a pro-abortion rights platform. Pro-abortion rights ballot measures won in every state where they appeared on the ballot, including conservative-leaning ones, in the 2022 and 2023 elections. Similarly in Arizona, a proposed amendment to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution has clear majority support. In Montana, there’s little evidence that the presence of an abortion rights amendment has had a major effect on the race between three-term Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican challenger Tim Sheehy. For example, in Missouri, public polling indicates broad support for a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights, while Republican Sen. Josh Hawley and Trump hold strong leads in their races.

Video Ad Feedback Coast Guard saves man clinging to cooler 30 miles off Florida coast as Milton approached 00:39 - Source: CNNAhead of Milton’s arrival this week, the US Coast Guard twice helped a Florida boater, who was found clinging to a cooler in the Gulf waters the second time he was rescued, video shows. A Coast Guard rescue boat crew and a rescue helicopter crew arrived to help the two people, who were airlifted back to Air Station Clearwater in good condition, the release said. “The weather at the time was 6-8 foot seas, and approximately 30 mph winds but quickly deteriorating as (Milton) approached,” the release states. The Coast Guard instructed the captain to wear a life jacket and stay with the vessel’s emergency position. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami helicopter was launched at 5:30 a.m.

This week's inflation data provided more evidence that the Federal Reserve is nearing its objective, fresh on the heels of the central bank's dramatic interest rate cut just a few weeks ago. Consumer and producer price indexes for September both came in around expectations, showing that inflation is drifting down to the central bank's 2% target. The Wall Street investment bank on Friday projected that the Commerce Department's personal consumption expenditures price index for September will show a 12-month inflation rate of 2.04% when it is released later this month. The Fed prefers the PCE as its inflation gauge though it uses a variety of inputs to make decisions.
