While Kamala Harris made history, Vivek Ramaswamy became a household name, and Usha Vance debuted to a tepid national audience, many everyday South Asian Americans were experiencing something altogether different. As these political leaders saw their profiles rise, everyday South Asian Americans experienced increased racism, with anti-South Asian posts online doubling over the campaign season, a new report found. Threats of violence against Asian Americans are up 17% from the baseline, and a vast majority of those threats were directed at South Asian Americans, the data revealed. Still, his Indian American identity has drawn fire. “South Asians, we don’t voice, we don’t make noise, we just silently are suffering,” she said.

Several rallies against the Treaty Principles Bill are being staged in towns across the country as a nine-day march, or hikoi, moves to Wellington. An estimated 10,000 people marched through Rotorua, about 280 miles north of Wellington, New Zealand police said in a statement. The ACT New Zealand party, a junior partner in the governing center-right coalition government, last week unveiled the bill, which it had promised during last year’s election. Details on the proposal are scant and some Democrats have called the overtime tax promise "as fake as his tan." "As part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime," he said at a rally in Tucson, Arizona. Among these, 82.1 million were hourly workers and 15.6 million were salaried workers, the report said. Meanwhile, about 7% of hourly workers and 70% of salaried workers do not qualify for FLSA, the report said. Luzerne County is one of many counties in Pennsylvania — and across the country — that shifted to the right this year. Kevin Kraynak, a Luzerne County native, traveled from his home in California to try to get out the vote. Luzerne County became a hotbed of election denialism in 2020, and Pennsylvania is an open-carry state. Just over 152,000 total ballots were cast in Luzerne County — about the same as in 2020. In only one other Pennsylvania county were Trump’s gains greater.

But if your device is filled with too much digital clutter, it could be affecting your mental health and productivity, experts say. But sometimes, the common behavior can tip over into a disorder that more researchers are trying to understand: digital hoarding. Here’s how to ease up on digital clutter and know when you might be displaying signs of a disorder, according to experts. “Digital clutter is just as stressful as actual clutter in our physical world,” she said. A digital hoarding disorder will be fueled by a persistent urge to save digital information, rather than a “preference” to store that is more flexible, he added.

Money from programs like Social Security accounted for 18% of total personal income in 2022. A growing share of income in most US counties is coming from social safety net programs like SNAP, Social Security, and Medicaid, per a report published in September by the research firm Economic Innovation Group. One in six people in 2022 were over the age of 65 — compared to one in 10 in 1970 — and just over half of the national transfer income flows from Medicare and Social Security. The report's findings come as Business Insider has spoken with many retirees — who are living solely on Social Security income because they don't have savings or retirement investments — who say they are struggling to afford basic necessities. "I don't want to be rich, I just need to be comfortable," a baby boomer living on $1,104 monthly in Social Security previously told BI.

New Zealand MPs disrupt parliament with hakaThe New Zealand Parliament was suspended after Maori members staged a haka to disrupt the vote on a contentious bill to reinterpret an 184-year-old treaty between the British and Indigenous Maori. First signed in 1840 between the British Crown and more than 500 Maori chiefs, the Treaty of Waitangi lays down how the two parties agreed to govern. The interpretation of clauses in the document still guides legislation and policy today. Rulings by the courts and a separate Maori tribunal have progressively expanded Maori rights and privileges over the decades. The ACT New Zealand party, a junior partner in the ruling center-right coalition government, proposed a bill to enshrine a narrower interpretation of the Waitangi treaty in law.

CNN —Israel’s war conduct in Gaza “is consistent with the characteristics of genocide,” including mass civilian casualties and using starvation as a weapon, according to a new United Nations Special Committee report released Thursday. The UN committee added that Israeli officials have publicly supported policies to destroy “vital water, sanitation and food systems” in Gaza as well as prevent access to fuel. The UN Special Committee is composed of three UN member states, including Malaysia, Senegal and Sri Lanka. But the US view is a stark contrast with the bleak picture on the ground, where much of the aid that reaches Gaza is not being distributed. “We have not seen any aid, and no one has sent us food,” 63-year-old Palestinian Umm Muhammad Al-At’out told CNN this week.

The rise in India's income and wealth inequality is not a result of the poor getting poorer, Sumedha Dasgupta, senior analyst at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) flags. India's income gap (which is the difference in wages earned between different demographic) comes alongside a worsening wealth divide too. Instead, the phenomenon comes as the "rich are getting much richer at a faster rate," she told CNBC's Inside India. India's 3 household groupsA more pressing issue brought on by India's wealth and income divide is the emergence of different categories of households with distinct standards of living. Yet, in the light of recent events in Amsterdam, it is keen to show its commitment to protecting French Jews: Thursday’s match offers the perfect opportunity.
