Vice President Kamala Harris is meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a trip to the U.S., while former President Donald Trump isn’t, highlighting the growing partisan division over a key foreign policy issue. “The president of Ukraine is in our country, and he’s making little nasty aspersions toward your favorite president, me,” Trump said Wednesday in North Carolina. “Every time Zelenskyy comes to the United States, he walks away with $100 billion,” Trump said Tuesday in Georgia. “I want the war to stop,” Trump when he was pressed during his only debate with Harris. A senior Trump administration official echoed Trump to say the circumstances of any future settlement deal grow more fraught by the day.

MOSCOW — A court in Russia’s Kaliningrad region said it had sentenced a U.S. citizen to six years in jail and fined him for 100,000 roubles ($1,078) for kidnapping his son, after he tried to leave Russia with the child without permission from the boy’s mother. The court said that the U.S. citizen, Daniel Joseph Schneider, tried to leave Russia with his four-year-old son, who is a Russian citizen, on July 29, 2023. Schneider was detained near Poland by Russia’s border service while trying to cross the Russian border in a forest swamp, the court said. Russian state TV channel Vesti said that Schneider had tried to get permission from the child’s mother to take him abroad but that she refused. In August, Russia, the United States and several other countries carried out a major prisoner exchange, which involved 24 prisoners — 16 moving from Russia to the West and eight sent back to Russia from the West.

As a citizen of three countries, the United States, Poland, and Portugal, I am acutely aware of cultural differences. My children and I live in the United States but have visited Europe several times. Children often get free admission to museumsIn the United States, visiting a museum, aquarium or zoo can easily cost more than $100. In Europe, children often receive free admission to museums or have to pay a nominal fee equivalent to a few dollars. In Europe, I found that there are often great fares for families traveling together by train or substantial discounts for children.

The rally provides little relief to CEO Pat Gelsinger, who has had a tough run since taking the helm in 2021. These are now the new realities on all of Germany’s land borders. On September 16, Berlin ordered the “temporary reintroduction of border control” at Germany’s borders with Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, France and Denmark. The calls for more checks on Germany’s borders also mark a step-change at the heart of the European Union from Merkel’s policies. In 2015, the long-serving, and ever popular former German chancellor Merkel opened Germany’s borders to migrants fleeing their homes - at the time largely Syrians because of the country’s civil war. The moves by Merkel became known as Wilkommenskulturand and set Germany apart on the world stage in liberal migration policy.

Kraków was full of well-preserved history. We were also fascinated with Rome's ancient history during our Italian vacation, but Kraków surprised us with an incredible mix of older and newer sites. As Luc explained on the episode, the city is special because it remained relatively unscathed during World War II. It's one of the best-preserved cities in Europe, with a charming old town square and an enchanting Jewish quarter. Kraków was also an important place for us to learn more about modern history, including visiting Schindler's Factory and paying respects at nearby Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Polish American voters are having a moment. “The Polish American vote there is meaningful,” Jackson said. “A question I frequently get is whether there is even such a thing as a Polish American vote. During his tenure as CEO, Grove transformed the chip company into a giant of Silicon Valley that, during the 1990s, was as important to the PC market as Microsoft. Pat Gelsinger, who has led Intel as CEO since 2021, has enacted a sweeping set of new initiatives to turn the chip company around. Its Gaudi 3 AI chip, unveiled as a rival to offerings from Nvidia and AMD, is expected to generate just $500 million in sales this year. Meanwhile, Alvin Nguyen, senior analyst at Forrester, told Business Insider that this is a big public win for Intel. Gelsinger's second headline announcement was that the company is establishing Intel Foundry as a separate subsidiary within Intel, with its own new operating board and independent directors.

CNN —Germany has begun new controls at all of its land borders as part of a crackdown on migration, placing restrictions on a wide area of free movement known as the Schengen Zone and stirring anger among its European neighbors. From Monday, as well as existing border controls with Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Poland, Germany will now also have internal border controls with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. Berlin will have the power to reject people at all land borders, a statement from the Interior Ministry said. The move marks how far Germany has shifted in recent years on the flashpoint issue of migration. Under European Union rules, member states have the ability to temporarily reintroduce border control at internal borders in the event of a serious threat to public policy or internal security.

New York CNN —Intel’s struggling chip-making business got a boost Monday from a high-profile client: Amazon. Intel Foundry and Amazon Web Services will coinvest in a custom chip design for the latter and “announced a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar framework,” according to a release. “Specifically, Intel Foundry will produce an AI fabric chip for AWS on Intel 18A,” Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in the statement Monday. The new deal, along with a $3 billion grant from the US government to boost domestic chip making and make chips for the US military, “demonstrates the continued progress we are making to build a world-class foundry business,” Intel said in the statement. One person drowned in southwest Poland and thousands were evacuated across the border in the Czech Republic after heavy rain continued to batter central Europe on Sunday, causing flooding in several parts of the region. Rivers overflowed from Poland to Romania, where four people were found dead on Saturday, after days of torrential rain in a low-pressure system named Boris. Some parts of the Czech Republic and Poland faced the worst flooding in almost three decades as towns evacuated thousands. That surpassed a record seen in heavy flooding in 1997, which partly damaged the town and claimed 56 lives in Poland. In Romania, authorities said the rain was less intense than on Saturday, when flooding killed four and damaged 5,000 homes.
