AdvertisementParth Raval is a big fan of planning, especially at a company like PepsiCo. As chief growth officer for PepsiCo Foods North America, Raval has to balance the short term with the long term. Continuing to build out and accelerate agendas around longer-range planning across supply and demand, and using technology to help us be more granular. I think this was manifested in longer-range planning across supply and demand, as macroeconomic factors created an imbalance at times. It's actually something we're going to turn to in 2024 to do better, longer-range planning.

The highest state minimum wage in 2024 will be Washington state, at $16.28, up from $15.74. The state with the biggest jump in its minimum wage this year will be Hawaii, which is hiking it by $2. The push to raise it has gone on for years because minimum wage workers stuck at $7.25 have lost substantial buying power. But advocates for a higher minimum wage, including Holly Sklar, CEO of Business for a Fair Minimum Wage, would rather see it adjusted for inflation from where it was in 1968. “People replace tires they couldn’t replace or get their kids clothes.”For businesses, she said, consumer spending goes up because minimum wage workers will spend their additional earnings quickly.

Elliott Investment Management has taken a $1 billion stake in Phillips 66 and is seeking as many as two board seats in a push to improve the company's performance, according to a Wednesday letter from the activist investor. Elliott's push for the board seats comes as Phillips has underperformed its competitors Marathon Petroleum and Valero . Elliott backed CEO Mark Lashier's plan to improve the company's performance. The CEO plans to do this through a more than $1 billion improvement in Phillips' refining segment, selling $3 billion in noncore assets and increasing the company's long-term capital return policy. Elliott said Phillips 66's stock has an upside of 75% from its last closing price of $118 if the company executes on these goals.

But long-promised finance from rich countries to help it make a green transition simply hasn’t arrived, President Wavel Ramkalawan told CNN in May. But Al Jaber’s decision to focus on increasing finance to help developing countries shift to renewable energy is helping his popularity in the Global South. A 2022 UN-backed report calculated developing countries will need about $2 trillion a year by 2030. “We have seen the West only being extractive and very opportunistic, and actually kept developing countries dependent on fossil fuels,” he said. “It needs to buy more time to diversify its economy further and wants to capitalize on its energy resources for as long as possible,” Vakil told CNN.

It’s too desperate, too confused, too pleased with its petty shocks to rile anything you’d recognize as genuine excitement. This thing was written and directed by Emerald Fennell, whose previous movie was “Promising Young Woman,” a horror flick about rape that was also a revenge comedy. These two meet, in earnest, when Oliver loans Felix his bike, a moment Oliver’s been waiting for. When Oliver tells Felix his father’s just died, Felix extends his Saltburn invitation out of sincere compassion. LONDON, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Writer, director and actor Emerald Fennell follows up her Oscar-winning feature debut "Promising Young Woman" with a starry satirical thriller, "Saltburn". Oliver's status and confidence are given a boost when Felix invites him to spend the summer at Saltburn, his family's sprawling countryside estate. "Promising Young Woman", which earned Fennell a best original screenplay Oscar, came out in 2020 and its release during the COVID pandemic helped ease some of the sophomore film pressure, Fennell said. Fennell, whose acting credits include "Barbie" and "The Crown", said she spent years writing the script in her head, revisiting the characters and the locations. The star of her debut film, Carey Mulligan, also makes an appearance in "Saltburn", alongside Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant, who play Felix's parents.

The revamped Congressional District 2, which was designed to boost the voting power of Black residents, has a voting-age population that is 48.7% Black, giving the district a decidedly Democratic tilt. State Republicans, however, say they are not ceding the seat without a fight. A federal judge ordered Georgia to draw an additional Black-majority congressional district, although the state plans to appeal. In its 2023-24 winter outlook, the regulatory authority warned that prolonged, wide-area cold snaps threaten the reliability of bulk power generation and availability of fuel supplies for natural gas-fired generation. "Recent extreme cold weather events have shown that energy delivery disruptions can have devastating consequences for electric and gas consumers in impacted areas," NERC said. It put the U.S. Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and South, along with some Canadian provinces, at the highest risk for electricity supply shortages this winter. NERC also found that load forecasting in winter is growing in complexity, and underestimating demand is a risk to reliability in extreme cold temperatures. Flows of gas into pipelines were reduced during Elliott, while demand for the fuel for heating and power generation increased, dramatically lowering line pressures.

A worrying late-year stock market unwind is starkest in small-cap indexes (.RUT) now tracking year-to-date losses of some 7% - even as the benchmark S&P500 (.SPX) remains up 7% and Big Tech leaders of the Nasdaq 100 are still 30% (.NDX) higher. Annual earnings growth for S&P500 companies is now expected to have picked up to a 4.3% annual growth rate, according to LSEG estimates, from as low as 1.6% before the reporting season began. But beyond Fed policy rates, it's the restive bond market and near 16-year-high long-term borrowing costs that are starting to hurt most. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields held steady at 4.85% - well below the 5% threshold they breached last week.
