World number one Djokovic suffered a three-centimetre hamstring tear en route to winning the Adelaide Open before claiming his 22nd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open to go level with Rafa Nadal. Feb 28 (Reuters) - Andy Murray said he is confident he will be in good physical condition at Wimbledon this year and that the tournament offers him the best chance of going deep at a Grand Slam. The 35-year-old considered retiring in 2019 after undergoing hip surgery but got his career back on track after another operation. "I really like the way that I've trained in practice these last four months and I've not been doing that with Wimbledon in mind. "If I do that and accumulate enough of those days, then I believe that come Wimbledon my game will be in a really, really good place." Murray is confident his body would be able to cope with the physical demands of playing seven five-set matches if required.
Feb 22 (Reuters) - The International Skating Union will lodge an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva after a Russian investigation found the teenager not guilty of any doping infraction, it said on Wednesday. The ISU said it is seeking a period of ineligibility at CAS's own discretion. "Additionally, CAS is to decide the consequences of the Anti-Doping Rule Violation committed by Kamila Valieva and determine the final results of the Figure Skating Team Event at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games." In her defence, Valieva said the positive test was the result of a mix-up with her grandfather's heart medication. During the Beijing Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided that no medals for the team figure skating event would be presented until Valieva's case had been resolved.
Feb 17 (Reuters) - LaLiga President Javier Tebas said it would be too late for the league to sanction Barcelona over payments made to a company owned by a high-ranking official of Spain's refereeing body, though it may be possible on a "criminal level". Spanish prosecutors said they are investigating around 1.4 million euros ($1.49 million) in payments made by Barcelona. The club have said they "hired the services of an external consultant" that supplied them with "technical reports related to professional refereeing". "It won't be possible for Barcelona to receive disciplinary sanctions," he said. "Five years have gone by and (the period to hand out) these types of sanctions expires after three years.

LONDON, Feb 12 (Reuters) - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta questioned a decision by match officials, saying Ivan Toney's equaliser for Brentford in their 1-1 Premier League draw on Saturday should have been ruled out for offside. "I just looked back and it is offside, yes," Arteta told a news conference. "You have to apply certain principles in defending and you do that by sticking to the rules. There was also a suggestion that Norgaard was offside before he made the assist but that did not appear to be proven. Asked about the equaliser, Brentford manager Thomas Frank said: "I agree that when they kick the ball Ethan is in an offside position.

Foreign investors, many of them already underweight what they consider an overpriced stock market, are reducing exposure. "Only Adani Group is trading with these ridiculously high multiples, and that is the core of the problem." "At this point in time, I don’t think it’s a systemic risk," said Jimmy Lim, chief investment officer at Modular Asset Management in Singapore. "We don't think that there's going to be a default anytime soon, although I don't expect any kind of near-term resolution between Adani Group and Hindenburg," Chao said. Yet Chao expects the selloff to help bring Indian stock valuations to more "palatable levels" for investors.

LONDON, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Chelsea announced the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica on Wednesday after days of complex negotiations between the clubs to secure the Argentina midfielder for a British transfer record 106.8 million pounds ($131.46 million). Premier League club Chelsea announced the signing on Wednesday 1000 GMT via a video on Twitter, which showed a clip of a clock ticking down, making a reference to race against time to sign the World Cup winner. It takes Chelsea's transfer spending in January alone to close to 300 million pounds and to more than 500 million pounds since last May's takeover by an investment group led by American Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. His fee eclipses the 100 million pounds Manchester City paid Aston Villa for England midfielder Jack Grealish in 2021. On Tuesday, Chelsea sold experienced midfielder Jorginho to Premier League leaders Arsenal for 12 million pounds.

"I have to say that this has been one of the most challenging tournaments I have played in my life, considering the circumstances," Djokovic said in his on-court interview. This, probably, is the biggest victory in my life considering the circumstances." This is definitely not your last Grand Slam, you still have a lot of time, much more than me," Djokovic said. United and Liverpool are the two most successful teams in English football but have won only one league title each in the past decade. "You get a lot of money from the Premier League, from broadcasting and sponsorship, but you also have to put a lot of money in to keep your team." "The failure of the proposal and the failure of Premier League clubs to gain greater power in the running of the league are likely influencing factors," said Spencer Harris, Associate Professor of Sport Management at the University of Colorado. "The current owners (of Liverpool and United) don't have the finances to compete and invest on the level of these other clubs." "(There is a) general realisation that English Premier League teams, the two biggest ones per se, are relatively uncapitalized versus NFL franchises, which have been a barometer for a longer period of time."
The club is one of the world's biggest sporting brands and generated 689 million euros ($750.94 million) in revenue in 2021-22. "Chelsea getting sold in 2022 means a rate has been established on the value of a Premier League club," Joyce said. The Glazers bought United for 790 million pounds in 2005 in a highly-leveraged deal which has been criticised for loading debt onto the club. OLD TRAFFORD INVESTMENTThe Chelsea deal involved the new owners paying 2.5 billion pounds ($3.10 billion) to purchase shares while committing a further 1.75 billion pounds to invest in the club, particularly the stadium. Media reports suggest it would cost one to two billion pounds to renovate.
