17 Looks That Did the Most at the Met Gala

The guest list for the first Monday in May, as the Met Gala is also known, serves as a Rorschach test for whom Anna Wintour deems important, circa now. Many guests wore black and white or suits and gowns embellished with pearls or flowers — favorite motifs of Mr. Lagerfeld. Doja Cat and Jared Leto each paid homage to Choupette, Mr. Lagerfeld’s feline friend. There were many wonderful dresses that paid respect to Mr. Lagerfeld’s legacy — in fact, there were too many to name. So here’s a reminder: The looks that follow did the most at the Met Gala — not necessarily the best, not necessarily the worst, just the most.
IT WAS BOUND to happen at some point. Along with low-rise jeans, the recent Y2K-style renaissance has resurrected going-out tops. If you’re over 30, you no doubt remember them—those sexy, strappy, sometimes bedazzled and always bordering-on-bad-taste camisoles that Paris Hilton and her ilk wore while cavorting at night clubs. Now they’ve reappeared, most notably at Celine’s recent Los Angeles show (in shimmering gold) and on Versace’s spring runway (in sheer, beaded violet). But as Gen Z and the TikTok set embrace this dubious early-2000s look, women who wore it the first time are wondering what to sport for a stylish night out that doesn’t channel Tara Reid circa 2003.
Paris Hilton joined lawmakers Thursday to announce a bill aimed at the troubled teen industry. Hilton spoked about her personal experiences of abuse at residential treatment centers in her teens. "From the ages of 16 to 18, I was sent to four troubled teen industry facilities, each one more horrific than the last. The "troubled teen" industry refers to a range of residential treatment centers nationwide that are aimed at kids struggling with emotional or behavioral issues. Bored Ape NFT creators win case against copycat artist

CNN —Crypto company Yuga Labs has won its claims of trademark infringement against artist Ryder Ripps who copied their NFTs in what he called a protest of their racially offensive imagery. Ripps told CNN he would appeal. But critics commented on social media that some of the Bored Apes contained what looked like references to posts on the website 4chan, which has become a hub of extremism, and pointed out that apes are an old trope in racist imagery. “Once the court adopted the plaintiff’s framing of the case, it was clear what was going to happen: the plaintiff wins everything basically,” he said. “There was an underlying really important point that the defendants are trying to make about the possibility that there was some kind of Nazi glorification in the overall collection NFT collection for the Bored Ape Yacht Club,” Goldman said.
Mark Hunter is a celebrity photographer who started uploading nightlife-photos to his blog in 2003. My approach to nightlife photography was very forward thinking. After every party I'd post the photos on my blog. I've learned nightlife photography is all about your reputation, working hard, and networkingI feel like I'm just as in demand now, if not more than I was back in the day. Becoming a nightlife photographer is going to be challenging because there's no formula like at a corporate job.
When she turned around, her thong was fully visible, rising up from the ultra-low Eduardo Lucero jersey dress. Gillian Anderson's fashion choices for the 2001 Vanity Fair Oscars party have become an iconic early 2000s moment. Anderson told a panel in 2016 that the thong was a last-minute decision, not a planned style choice. But when I put it on, my pubic hairs poked through the dress,” Anderson told the moderator and the audience to raucous laughter. As for the fate of the Eduardo Lucero dress, Anderson donated it to a charity auction (sans thong) to benefit research into the genetic disorder Neurofibromatoses, according to her website.

Toothed whales can use vocal registers like humans to communicate and hunt. Like Kim Kardashian, whales have a "vocal fry" which can be used to find prey in deep sea. This gives them access to falsetto, which allows them to make their high-pitched whistles, and the chesty, vocal fry range, which is how they make echolocation. Christian B. Christensen, Aarhus UniversityAn affectation that shaped toothed whales' evolutionTeglberg and Elemans say this has very much influenced the way dolphins, orcas, and other toothed whales evolved a "Mona Lisa" fixed smile on their face. "While vocal fry may be controversial in humans and may be perceived as everything from annoying toauthoritative, it doubtlessly made toothed whales an evolutionary success story", Elemans adds.
Mike Anderson and Ovie Faruq offloaded their collection of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs this week. The 72 NFTs sold for $9.25 million, according to OpenSea data cited by Bloomberg. The former Barclays junk bond traders reportedly netted a 700% profit for the deal. The two traders' 700% profit still pales in comparison to what they could have made at the height of the crypto boom, according to Bloomberg. The publication estimated that Anderson and Faruq's Bored Ape collection was worth $30 million at the start of May 2022 – which would have netted them profits of just under 3,000%.

Bored Ape Yacht Club was not the biggest crypto phenomenon, but it was one of the top beneficiaries of celebrity hype. The Bored Apes — a computer-generated collection of 10,000 cartoons — were being presented as a status symbol, membership in an exclusive club. Yuga sued Ripps for trademark infringement, and argues that his maligning of the Yuga apes is nothing more than a profiteering tactic. Hickman, who is Black, thought the Bored Apes looked like stereotypical portrayals of Black people as stupid or lazy. He said he thought this would be obvious to most people the second they saw an image of a Bored Ape.

When it comes to digital fashion, though, the possibilities are boundless. Over the years, I've collaborated with celebrities like Karlie Kloss, Paris Hilton, and Elton John on personalized collections for the metaverse. Certain brands I've worked with have asked me to create virtual replicas of their existing merchandise. Digital fashion has already evolved from a cryptic concept to a familiar notion. I see myself eventually creating traditional clothing from my metaverse designs — developing ideas, designing, and simulating pieces digitally before transforming then into tangible, wearable pieces.
The firm behind Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs is being sued for not disclosing celebrities' involvement. The lawsuit alleged that Yuga Labs manufactured celebrity endorsements and misleading promotions. The legal action against blockchain cryptocurrency startup Yuga Labs was filed on Friday in California District Court. The unique selling point of Yuga Labs' NFT collection, called the Bored Ape Yacht Club, is that NFT owners become members of an exclusive "club" that included these celebrities. Yuga Labs didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.
Justin Bieber's bought a Bored Ape NFT for $1.3 million in January. It's now probably worth $70,000, according to NFT Price Floor. The 95% drop in valuation comes after Sam Bankman-Fried's FTX collapsed and caused crypto prices to crash. In addition to Bored Ape, some top ethereum NFT collections are also facing lower values this month. Talk show host Jimmy Fallon, model Paris Hilton, and rappers Snoop Dogg and Eminem also own Bored Ape NFTs.
Tom Brady just signaled the end of an era for crypto with a quiet change of his Twitter profile photo. Brady switched his profile photo from the "laser eyes" meme, which symbolized bullishness in Bitcoin. Social media profiles with "laser eyes" grew in popularity among cryptocurrency believers last year as a way for them to symbolically show bullishness in crypto, particularly in Bitcoin. Bitcoin is currently trading at $16,000, its lowest level in two years, and most original laser eye photos have now disappeared from Twitter. Brady was one of the final holdouts with a "laser eyes" photo; many noteworthy people quietly switched away from the meme as cryptocurrency prices crashed this year.
Ksenia Sobchak, Putin's rumored god-daughter and a media figure, fled Russia last week. Now, her mother told Russian state media that she is expected to return to Russia soon. "She will, very soon," Narusova told Ria Novosti when asked if her daughter is slated to return, according to Radio Sputnik. After fleeing Russia, Sobchak was named a suspect in the case, and her home was searched, according to TASS. Narusova told Ria Novosti that her daughter, Sobchak, was not involved in the alleged criminal activity, Radio Sputnik reported.
A prominent Russian media star who fled the country posted saying she is in "big trouble." In her Telegram post on Saturday, Sobchak wrote: "My thoughts are with my family, who I have been separated from." Possibly, in big trouble." In her most recent post referring to her situation, Sobchak decried a backlash she had received in Russian media, as Russian newspaper Kommersant reported. Possibly, in big trouble.

A Russian media star with strong ties to Putin fled the country, per multiple reports. Ksenia Sobchak, rumored to be Putin's god-daughter, is in Lithuania, an official there said. Ksenia Sobchak left Russia and entered Lithuania using an Israeli passport late on Tuesday, state-controlled media outlet TASS reported, citing unnamed law-enforcement officials. Putin has since described Sobchak as a mentor, and Ksenia has long been rumored to be Putin's god-daughter. Putin has clamped down hard on Russian media outlets in the last years, an effort that has, as of the invasion of Ukraine, all but silenced independent journalism in the country.
Jauniskis said Lithuania has no evidence of any threat that Sobchak could pose to national security. Russian state news agency Tass reported Wednesday that Sobchak was a suspect in an extortion case involving her media director Kirill Sukhanov. Sobchak has for years been rumored to be Putin’s goddaughter, which she has denied. A well-connected media figure, Sobchak runs a YouTube channel with more than 3.2 million subscribers where she conducts often hard-hitting interviews with Russian newsmakers. Sobchak’s departure marks the latest exile of a prominent Russian celebrity.
Suddenly, in the midst of discussing what Cohen should wear to the next LoveShackFancy store opening, there was the sound of glass clanging. (Another person confirmed hearing this exchange, though the person close to the company said multiple Zoom attendees did not recall it.) The person close to the company said, "It is not uncommon for trips to have dual purposes — they always generate content." Another time, during a visit to the Palm Beach store, Cohen freaked out after seeing staffers in sweatshirts and sneakers. "As with most contemporary fashion brands, we currently do not operate in the plus-size business," the person close to LoveShackFancy said.
But amid a crypto winter, the future trajectory of the sports memorabilia market, tangible or NFT, is being disputed. Meanwhile, the success of NBA Top Shot, arguably the most successful sports NFT market, soared and eventually crashed. Millennials are driving the NFT market, according to a Morning Consult survey that found 42% of all NFT collectors are 26 to 40 years old. Some sports market experts argue that regardless of an NFT bounce back, tangibles and NFTs in the sports memorabilia market don’t compete with each other. “I don’t think that [NFTs] are going to eat into the physical memorabilia market,” said Pete Giorgio, leader of Deloitte Consulting’s global and U.S. sports practice, who tracks and forecasts the sports memorabilia market.
