AP —A San Francisco jury on Tuesday found a tech consultant guilty of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Cash App founder Bob Lee. Momeni, who studies martial arts, claimed self-defense and said he didn’t realize he had fatally wounded Lee or that Lee was even hurt. Momeni was charged with murder in the first degree, but jurors could have found him guilty of murder in the second degree or manslaughter. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, with attorney Todd Blanche, speaks to reporters as jurors are released to begin deliberations for his criminal trial at the Manhattan Criminal Court in New York, NY on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Attorneys for Donald Trump told a New York judge that the president-elect's criminal hush money trial was tainted by "grave juror misconduct" and that his guilty verdicts should be thrown out as a result. The seven-page letter from Blanche and Bove is heavily redacted. The visible portions of the letter offer few details or evidence to support the misconduct claims. The correspondence was revealed one day after Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Merchan rejected Trump's bid to have his hush money conviction dismissed on the grounds of presidential immunity.

“In this term, everybody wants to be my friend,” the president-elect said at his Mar-a-Lago resort Monday, relishing the outpouring of deference from foreign leaders, CEOs and Republican powerbrokers as he readies his second term. Since winning last month’s election, Trump has been far more visible than Joe Biden, and it would be easy to mistake him for the sitting president. Trump never looked quite as at ease or cheerful when he was saddled with the cares of the presidency. Trump’s unique chanceTrump is experiencing a chance that only one president in history — Grover Cleveland — has known: to start his second term from scratch. It seems unlikely, as the president-elect speculated in his freewheeling news conference in Florida, that “my personality changed or something.”Such turmoil is unlikely to erode the rock-solid loyalty of Trump’s political base.

Although the Teamsters claim to represent 7,000 Amazon workers nationwide, that accounts for less than 1% of the company’s US workforce. Strike authorization votes are often approved, even if the union members never actually go on strike. While an upstart union, the Amazon Labor Union won such a vote at Amazon’s Staten Island facility in April 2022. Many of the 7,000 Teamsters that the union refers to as “Amazon employees,” however, are drivers for independent contractors making deliveries for Amazon and no one else. Those drivers are based at seven different Amazon facilities, including those who authorized strikes in Queens and Skokie.

In the exit polls, about 1 in 8 voters who described Trump as “too extreme” still voted for him. Likewise, in the VoteCast survey, Trump won 1 in 6 voters who expressed concern that he would steer the country in an authoritarian direction. Trump won almost exactly the same share of voters who said in the VoteCast survey that he lacks the moral character to serve as president. Even among the voter groups most directly affected by these policies, Trump won substantial support from people who disagreed with him. In either case, the result was that Trump won far too many voters who supported legal abortion for Harris to prevail.

If you're eager to save more for retirement, it's not too early to boost 401(k) plan contributions for 2025, financial experts say. For 2025, you can defer up to $23,500 into 401(k) plans, up from $23,000 in 2024. For workers age 50 and older, the 401(k) catch-up contribution remains at $7,500 for 2025. But there's a "super funding" opportunity for 401(k) catch-up contributions for a subset of savers, according to Tommy Lucas, a certified financial planner and enrolled agent at Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo in Orlando, Florida. However, boosting contributions later could still be beneficial for savers in this age range, experts say.
