It says something about the way things have been going for President Biden lately that being targeted for impeachment was not the worst news of a tough week. But over the course of the past seven days, Mr. Biden was besieged on multiple fronts, both personal and political, challenging his capacity, threatening his family and jeopardizing his political position. One of his favorite columnists urged him not to run again, sparking more hand wringing in his party. And oh yes, House Republicans opened an impeachment inquiry aimed at charging him with high crimes and misdemeanors. Politics in Washington being what it is today, Mr. Biden and his team exhibited no particular concern over the course of events.

CNN —Jimmy Kimmel was ready to throw in the towel as the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” but it seems the host has had a change of heart. “I was very intent on retiring right around the time where the strike started,” Kimmel said Wednesday on the debut episode of his new Spotify podcast “Strike Force Five,” which he hosts with fellow network TV late-night show personalities Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert. “Now I realize, oh yeah, it’s kind of nice to work,” Kimmel added. In 2022, ABC announced that Kimmel signed a three-year contract extension to stay on as host and executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” so regardless of his itch to retire, he’s under contract until 2025. As a result, the late-night shows – which rely on writers for monologues and comedy bits – all went dark in May.

Thirteen percent of Americans believe abortion should be illegal under all circumstances. Trump, 77, filed his counterclaim in a second defamation lawsuit by Carroll, 79, who is seeking at least $10 million. The verdict reflected that "Mr. Trump 'raped' her, albeit digitally rather than with his penis," Kaplan wrote on Monday. Both lawsuits stemmed from Trump's denials that he forced himself upon and raped Carroll in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in Manhattan in the mid-1990s. Carroll amended her lawsuit after Trump disparaged her as a "whack job" in a CNN town hall following the verdict. The lawsuit is Carroll v. Trump appealed the decision, adding it to his earlier appeal of the jury verdict. She amended it after Trump disparaged her in a CNN town hall one day after the $5 million verdict, calling her account "fake" and her a "whack job." "Oh yes he did, oh yes he did," Caroll said during a CNN interview on May 10, reiterating her allegation that Trump raped her. A day earlier, a jury in U.S. District Court Manhattan awarded Carroll $5 million in damages from Trump. Kaplan also said four out of the five statements Trump claimed were defamatory were made outside of New York's one-year statute of limitations. Kaplan called Trump's counterclaim "nothing more than his latest effort to delay accountability for what a jury has already found to be his defamation of E Jean Carroll." Trump's countersuit is the latest twist in a circuitous, multicourt legal battle over Carroll's allegation that Trump, 77, sexually assaulted her.

A new teaser for the second season of “Squid Game” announced both returning and new cast members, with series lead Lee Jung-jae, playing cash-strapped everyman Seong Gi-hun, back for a second round. Standout cast member Oh Yeong-su, who played the elderly and unassuming Oh Il-nam in the first season of “Squid Game,” has yet to be confirmed as a returning cast member, even though his involvement in the game was revealed to be a bit more complicated at the end of the show’s first season. Despite the presence of magical talking pooches, this journey of heroism and self-discovery feels grounded thanks to captions that get into the head of Frankie, who prefers they/them pronouns. On the first page, they think, “Do you ever feel like you don’t make sense?” Later, Frankie muses about their frenemy Dallas, who misgenders them: “She gets it wrong on purpose just to make a big deal about correcting it.” And when Frankie finds their tribe, “For the first time in a long time, I look in the mirror and I don’t feel a pain in the pit of my stomach.” Written by Jeremy Whitley, drawn by Bre Indigo and colored by Melissa Capriglione. What do you get when you toss together a brassy grifter, an Elvish-speaking anagrammist, a show choir and, oh yes, a teenager with a life-threatening genetic condition? This year, it seems, you get a Tony-winning musical. “Kimberly Akimbo,” a small show with a huge heart, is likely to win the most coveted prize at the 76th Tony Awards ceremony on Sunday, according to my annual survey of Tony voters. Over the last week, I have connected, by email or telephone, with 158 voters who generously agreed to discuss their picks (and, often, their concerns about, and hopes for, the theater business); they are distributing their votes widely among the nominees after a season with few consensus favorites. There are a total of 769 Tony voters, and they are mostly industry insiders — producers, investors, actors, writers, directors, designers, and many others with theater-connected lives and livelihoods.

That album, for me, symbolizes everything that it means to come of age — the heartbreak, the finding yourself. I feel like my friends are probably tired of me constantly suggesting to go get ramen when they ask what we want for lunch.
Paris CNN —The humble baguette is the epitome of French baking. The perfect loaf, delicately crusty outside, soft and airy inside, is worth the airfare to Paris all on its own. For the contest, bakers are judged specifically on their “baguette de tradition,” a designation that differentiates good-quality loaves from industrially made rivals. Polski is a veteran of the Paris contest, having presided over it for almost a decade. There is not one neighborhood today without fresh bread, Polski says.
Opinion: The surprising antidote to burnout

Community feels good. Activism feels good. Cultivating feels good. Sometimes we go out and work in community because we want to alter and renew our sense of what is possible. Last year, author Laura Vanderkam wrote in The New York Times that quitting is not the answer to burnout.
The list of deplorable acts carried out by the Roy family is lengthy — blackmailing, covering up sexual assaults, murder. With what we know about the Roy family and the people who orbit them, one might find it hard to muster any compassion for these characters. He doesn't believe the show will inspire empathy for the ultra-wealthy, but it could for some of the struggles the Roy family has. 'I shouldn't have empathy for them, but I feel like do'For Succession fans, the Roys' wealth is a mental hurdle, but not an insurmountable one. Chase Shiflet 'Succession' fanMandy Weiss, 34, can conjure empathy for all the characters, including some of the more peripheral ones.

Now this verdict is for all women.”Asked by Harlow what she was thinking when the jury did not find that Carroll proved Trump raped her, Carroll said, “Well, I just immediately (said) in my own head, ‘Oh, yes, he did. Oh yes, he did.’” When she shook hands with Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina, she said to him, “he did it. Trump has denied all wrongdoing and does not face any jail time as a result of the civil verdict.
But the tug that Henry exerts on his father’s heart, while scarcely new, is ever more evident — in particular during the goodbyes that close the episode, when Ted can scarcely let go of Henry’s backpack. NateWhen we first run across Nate this episode, he is in bed in the morning. Upon waking, she quickly determines that, charmingly, Nate had already gotten up, showered, shaved, brushed his teeth and gotten back into bed. We’ve gone straight from romantic tension to romantic fulfillment without witnessing the romantic journey at all, at least so far. Which is perhaps part of the reason Nate’s most moving relationship is still his complicated one with Ted.
