New York City Mayor Eric Adams will step into a Manhattan courtroom and into the history books on Friday when he is arraigned on federal corruption and bribery charges that could force him out of office. Adams is the first sitting New York City mayor to be indicted on criminal charges in the modern era. “This was a multiyear scheme to buy favor with a single New York City politician on the rise,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said Thursday. Adams' indictment capped two weeks of turmoil in his administration, a period during which Banks, the city’s police commissioner, and the city's top lawyer, have announced their resignations. “You could almost picture them trying to cobble this together and try to tell a story so that they could say, ‘corruption, corruption’ at a press conference,” Spiro said at a Thursday press conference.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet at Trump Tower on Friday morning, according to Trump, giving the Ukrainian leader the chance to make a personal pitch to a GOP presidential nominee openly skeptical of continued US security assistance for Ukraine against Russia. Still, it’s unclear whether Zelensky can say anything to convince Trump to change his position on the Russia-Ukraine war and US security assistance. Zelensky said this week that Trump doesn’t know how to end Russia’s war on Ukraine. But an in-person meeting while Zelensky, who was in town for the UN General Assembly, appeared unlikely earlier this week. “Those cities are gone, they’re gone, and we continue to give billions of dollars to a man who refused to make a deal, Zelensky.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams insisted that he will remain in office despite his indictment. However, the city's charter outlines two ways Adams could be forcibly removed from his position. AdvertisementAfter news broke that New York City Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on five criminal counts, many other politicians started calling on him to resign his post. The committee includes five members: New York City's top attorney, the comptroller, the City Council speaker, the borough president serving the longest consecutive term, and a deputy mayor that the mayor selects, the city charter states. If Adams is removed from office or resigns, Jumaane Williams, the city's public advocate, would serve as acting mayor.

Eric Adams was indicted on 5 criminal charges but denies wrongdoing in language that mirrors Trump. AdvertisementNew York City Mayor Eric Adams' indictment may be unprecedented, but his rhetoric isn't. In his staunch denial of any wrongdoing, Adams is sounding eerily similar to another politician: former President Donald Trump. AdvertisementBeyond painting themselves a victim or "target," Trump and Adams struck a similar tone another topic: immigration. At a press conference in New York City on Thursday afternoon, Trump defended Adams and praised the mayor's immigration stance.

Adams allegedly committed 23 different “overt acts,” which include accepting free flights and hotel rooms and coordinating straw donations. In 2017, Adams allegedly accepted free business class tickets for three roundtrip international flights and a heavily discounted stay at a suite in the St. Regis Istanbul. Adams allegedly accepted over $123,000 worth of luxury travel benefits between 2016 and 2021, without disclosing any of it. “No one is above the law, including the Mayor of New York City,” Schumer said in a written statement Thursday. The indictment does not total the amount of matching public funds Adams allegedly received directly from the eight illegal straw donations.

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would meet with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Friday morning at Trump Tower in New York. Trump was previously not expected to meet with the Ukrainian president, who has already held meetings on Thursday with both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump's planned meeting with Zelenskyy comes days after Zelenskyy called Vance "too radical," according to a story published Sunday in The New Yorker. Vance responded to Zelenskyy on Wednesday, saying, "I don’t appreciate Zelenskyy coming to this country and telling the American taxpayers what to do." Biden and Zelenskyy will meet again on Oct. 12 in Germany, according to the White House.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been hit with five federal charges – including wire fraud, bribery and solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national – according to a sprawling 57-page federal indictment unsealed Thursday. Although the Bentley Suite for two nights would have cost approximately $7,000, Adams paid less than $600, the indictment says. And so, the building opened as requested by a Turkish official who had plied Adams with travel benefits and other gifts, the indictment says. In addition to the free travel and hotel rooms, Adams received illegal campaign contributions from foreign donors, including the Turkish government official, the indictment says. Adams has repeatedly said that his administration is cooperating in the investigations and he's focused on his work as mayor.

Vice President Kamala Harris is meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a trip to the U.S., while former President Donald Trump isn’t, highlighting the growing partisan division over a key foreign policy issue. “The president of Ukraine is in our country, and he’s making little nasty aspersions toward your favorite president, me,” Trump said Wednesday in North Carolina. “Every time Zelenskyy comes to the United States, he walks away with $100 billion,” Trump said Tuesday in Georgia. “I want the war to stop,” Trump when he was pressed during his only debate with Harris. A senior Trump administration official echoed Trump to say the circumstances of any future settlement deal grow more fraught by the day.

New York Mayor Eric Adams is expected to face federal charges by prosecutors out of the Southern District of New York as soon as Thursday, two sources familiar with the matter said Wednesday night. Before news of federal charges broke Wednesday, Adams was at a reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which President Joe Biden also attended. “I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez said on X. "However, it is clear that defending himself against serious federal charges will require a significant amount of the time and attention needed to govern this great city. The most appropriate path forward is for him to step down so that New York City can get the full focus its leadership demands."

CNN —Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the White House on Thursday could be his final chance to convince a receptive American president of his country’s war aims. Even if Biden decides to allow the long-range fires, it’s unclear whether the change in policy would be announced publicly. The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia is no exception, they say, insisting that Ukraine would continue to have the US’s unwavering support against Russian aggression under a Harris presidency. “Five days before Russia attacked Ukraine, I met with President Zelensky to warn him about Russia’s plan to invade. There is quiet recognition even inside the Biden administration that any reassurances Zelensky may receive from Biden and Harris this week on the US’s commitment to supporting Ukraine could all be for naught under a different American president.

CNN —New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the rank-and-file transit cop who rose to the city’s most powerful office, is no longer the master of his political destiny. President Joe Biden, asked at the White House on Thursday if Adams should resign, said, “I don’t know.”What will Jeffries do? “We need Eric Adams to be successful as mayor because he is the mayor at this moment in time,” Jeffries said. “No one is above the law, including the Mayor of New York City,” Schumer said in a statement. “This is squarely about Mayor Adams’ ability to govern New York City, and for the New York City governance to be fully staffed to serve the people of New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez told reporters Wednesday afternoon on Capitol Hill before news of the indictment broke.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on criminal charges in federal court in Manhattan, a source familiar with the matter told CNBC on Wednesday night. Adams, a 64-year-old former police captain, is at least the second New York mayor to be criminally charged while still in office. Trump's arguments for overturning his $454M civil fraud verdict received a warm reception Thursday. Trump attorney D. John Sauer has made this line drawing a central point of his appeal. The appeal argues that James' fraud case wrongly interfered in the decisions of "sophisticated" banks that had been happy to loan Trump money regardless of any exaggerations. Deutsche Bank relied on Trump's financial statements in loaning him $400 million to develop his Chicago skyscraper, his Washington, DC hotel, and his Miami golf resort. Advertisement"And I will stress, your honor, that this does have harm to the public and the markets," she said of Trump's persistent financial frauds.

House Oversight Chair James Comer is opening an investigation into Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Sunday visit to an ammunition factory in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The Republican investigation comes as the relationship between Zelenskyy and former president Donald Trump seems to sour. On Wednesday, Trump accused Zelenskyy of insulting him — Trump said the Ukrainian president was "making nasty little dispersions toward" him — and adding that he got along with Russian President Vladimir Putin "very well." Zelenskyy is in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly high-level week in New York, where he is meeting with world leaders. Trump was expected to meet with the Ukrainian President on Thursday at Trump Tower, but a Trump campaign official told NBC News Wednesday that the meeting was not happening.

The NYPD on Friday released body-worn camera footage from a weekend shooting at a Brooklyn subway station that started as a confrontation between police and an apparent fare-beater who they have said charged at officers with a knife. According to police and surveillance video from the station, Mickles jumped a turnstile at the subway station just after 3 p.m. Sunday, right in front of two officers. When a train pulls into the station, Mickles backs onto it once the doors open. All shots were fired by NYPD officers, authorities have said. “There was no need for any bullets to fly in the subway station, especially in a setting where the officers put innocent bystanders at risk.
