SpaceX told the Pentagon it couldn't fund Starlink in Ukraine and asked it to foot the bill, per CNN. Shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in February, SpaceX sent thousands of Starlink terminals to Kyiv at the request of the country's minister for digital transformation Mykhailo Fedorov. In the letter, SpaceX asked the Pentagon to bear the cost of Starlink used by the Ukrainian government and military, per CNN. This connectivity costs $4,500 per month because SpaceX offered its top service, despite most Ukrainian users requesting the $500-a-month service, SpaceX told the Pentagon in the letter, per CNN. Meanwhile, the two models of Starlink terminals that SpaceX sent to Ukraine cost $1,500 and $2,500, per the documents seen by CNN.
WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Elon Musk said on Friday his rocket company SpaceX cannot indefinitely fund its Starlink internet service in Ukraine, which has helped the country's civilians and military stay online during the war with Russia. Musk's comment on Twitter came after a media report that SpaceX had asked the Pentagon to pay for the donations of Starlink. Musk activated Starlink, satellite broadband service, in Ukraine in late February after internet services were disrupted because of Russia's invasion. On Friday, an advisor to the Ukrainian president said Kyiv will find a solution to keep the Starlink internet service working in Ukraine. Oct 12 (Reuters) - SpaceX's Starlink services helped restore energy and communications infrastructure in Ukraine's critical areas, the country's Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said on Wednesday. "Over 100 cruise missiles attacked (Ukraine's) energy and communications infrastructure. But with Starlink we quickly restored the connection in critical areas," Fedorov tweeted. loadingSome of the Starlink internet devices that had suffered outages have come back online in the past few days, restoring crucial lines of communications in territory recently liberated from Russian occupation, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing Ukrainian soldiers and officials. In February, when Ukraine's internet was disrupted following Russia's invasion, SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk said Starlink satellite broadband service was available in the country and SpaceX was sending more terminals to Ukraine.
Ukraine's vice prime minister confirmed that Kyiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia were struck. The attacks came after a blast crippled a bridge in Crimea that serves as a Russian supply line. This fresh volley of attacks from Russia comes after the Kerch Strait Bridge, a key supply route connecting Russia and Crimea, was damaged in a blast on Saturday. For his part, Putin on Sunday labeled the bridge blast a "terrorist act" carried out by the "special services of Ukraine." Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the Kerch Strait Bridge blast but has hinted at its involvement in the incident.
Elon Musk recently said Starlink has manufactured more than one million user terminals. Musk said on Twitter on Saturday that SpaceX has so far manufactured more than one million Starlink user terminals, which connect to the company's satellites in orbit. SpaceX, the aerospace manufacturer founded by Musk, has an expansive, high-speed satellite internet network in space called Starlink. Starlink uses antennas — "electrically identical" to existing user terminals — which can be mounted on vehicles, vessels, and aircraft.
SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet is active across all seven continents, CEO Elon Musk tweeted. The company launched 54 Starlink satellites on Sunday to add to its constellation. SpaceX launched on Sunday a batch of 54 Starlink satellites after five previous attempts were scrubbed because of bad weather. These satellites have joined the 3,076 working Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit. Musk sent Starlink terminals to the country after Ukraine's vice-prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, asked Musk in February for help.

Elon Musk said SpaceX has delivered 15,000 Starlink kits to Ukraine. It's the first time SpaceX has publicly revealed the number of Starlink kits it has sent to Ukraine. Halfway through the video a slide appears saying "15,000 Starlinks delivered to Ukraine" with a photograph showing Starlink kits laid out in what appears to be a parking lot. It's the first time SpaceX or Musk have publicly announced the number of Starlink kits sent to Ukraine since it activated its broadband service there in late February. SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell told CNBC in March the company had sent "thousands" of Starlink kits to Ukraine, but did not give a specific number.
