Fujitsu has put its 50% stake in Shinko Electric, worth around $2.6 billion at current market prices, on sale, other sources said. A Mitsubishi spokesperson said the trading house had set up a division in June dealing with chips and materials that was looking into various opportunities. A Shinko spokesperson declined to comment. Still, semiconductor packaging remains an area of strength for Japan with Shinko, Ibiden (4062.T) and Toppan Holdings (7911.T) all major players in the global chip supply chain.

The conference in Beijing on Oct. 17-18 marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) championed by Xi, with representatives from many developing countries, notably from Latin America and Africa, expected to attend. But critics see the plan - billed as recreating the ancient Silk Road to boost global trade - as a tool for China to spread its geopolitical and economic influence. China had signed Belt and Road cooperation documents with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations, the foreign ministry said.

With workers threatening to resume strikes from next week at the facilities that supply around 6% of the world's LNG, Chevron and unions were holding negotiations before Australia's industrial arbitrator, the Fair Work Commission. Unions halted weeks of strikes at Chevron's sites in late September after an earlier round of talks produced a deal. However, unions subsequently accused Chevron of reneging on certain commitments and said on Monday they would restart strikes on Oct. 19.

HONG KONG, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Shares of China Evergrande (3333.HK) jumped as much as 42% in volatile trade on Tuesday, days after the embattled developer said its billionaire founder was being investigated over unspecified crimes. Evergrande's stock was suspended last Thursday after a report that its chairman and founder had been placed under police surveillance. "There is currently no other inside information in relation to the company that needs to be disclosed," Evergrande said in a statement late on Monday. The clock is ticking for Evergrande to get creditors' approval for restructuring its offshore debt. With the latest setbacks, some analysts say the debt restructuring plan now looks set to falter and that the risks of the company being liquidated are increasing.
