Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul whose alleged sexual misconduct fueled the #MeToo movement and who was recently indicted on new charges, has chronic myeloid leukemia, two sources told NBC News. The sources added that Weinstein is undergoing treatment in prison at Rikers Island in New York. Chronic myeloid leukemia is an uncommon form of cancer of the bone marrow, according to the Mayo Clinic. In a statement to NBC News on Monday night, Weinstein's legal health care representative Craig Rothfeld said in part, "Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein's privacy, we will offer no further comment." Weinstein's health issues come amid his legal battle with Manhattan prosecutors over their efforts to combine his original 2020 sexual crimes with a new criminal indictment.

The prolonged nationwide blackout that followed a massive outage Thursday night was part of countrywide energy problems that led to the largest protests in Cuba in almost 30 years, in July 2021. The Cuban government on state television Monday night said that it's producing 1300 megawatts when peak demand can hit 3 gigawatts. He said that Oscar would bring "an additional inconvenience" to Cuba's recovery since it would affect key Cuban power plants, such as Felton in the city of Holguín, and Renté in Santiago de Cuba. The blackout was considered to be Cuba's worst since Hurricane Ian hit the island as a Category 3 storm in 2022 and damaged power installations.

The gunman who shot a longtime Santa Monica College employee is dead following a pursuit that ended in a standoff in El Segundo, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Police say 39-year-old Davon Durell Dean, a Santa Monica College employee, shot his coworker Monday night on campus. At about 3 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect’s car was located in El Segundo. As a result of the standoff, access to Aviation Boulevard between 124th Street and El Segundo Boulevard was closed. In wake of the on-campus shooting, Santa Monica College said counseling and mental/emotional support services would be provided to students and faculty who have been impacted.
