GOOGL YTD mountain Alphabet shares this year "There's uncertainty around the moat," said Jamie Meyers, an analyst at Laffer Tengler Investments. "It's an opportunity that is meaningfully underestimated by investors given everything that's happened," said Deepwater Asset Management's Gene Munster. Beyoncé has gone country, sure … but it turns out that’s only the half of it. For months, the superstar, who made her name in R&B and pop, has been telegraphing her version of country music and style. At midnight on Friday, Beyoncé finally released her new album, “Cowboy Carter,” and the country bona fides were certainly there. Yet “Cowboy Carter” is far broader than simply a country album. That theory is made clear on the spoken track “Spaghettii,” featuring the pioneering but long absent Black country singer Linda Martell, who in 1970 released an album called “Color Me Country.”

Investors looking to bet on the artificial intelligence boom may want to take a look at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing , according to JPMorgan. Analyst Gokul Hariharan reiterated his overweight rating on the semiconductor maker, a supplier to chip majors such as Nvidia , Advanced Micro Devices and Qualcomm , saying that "all roads in AI semis lead" to the company. Within the next three to four years, Hariharan expects Taiwan Semiconductor to maintain its greater-than 90% market share of AI-connected processor silicon. By 2026, he forecasts the company's revenues can hit $119 billion, driven by robust growth in high-performance computing as AI training and inference demand grows. A solid setup for the company's 3 nanometer process technology for chipmakers such as Nvidia should also benefit revenues.

GE stock has been on a tear, outperforming the market over the past year, as investors bet that the company's break-up will unlock still more value. Since the health-care spinoff, GE shares have risen above $170 from the $60s. He expects anyone buying GE Vernova shares in April will get "a 50% move over the next fourteen months." The Alabama legislature on Wednesday is expected to pass legislation that will make it possible for fertility clinics in the state to reopen without the specter of crippling lawsuits. But the measure, hastily written and expected to pass by a huge bipartisan margin, does not address the legal question that led to clinic closings and set off a stormy, politically fraught national debate: Whether embryos that have been frozen and stored for possible future implantation have the legal status of human beings. The Alabama Supreme Court made such a finding last month, in the context of a claim against a Mobile clinic brought by three couples whose frozen embryos were inadvertently destroyed. The court ruled that, under Alabama law, those embryos should be regarded as people, and that the couples were entitled to punitive damages for the wrongful death of a child. Legal experts said the bill, which Governor Kay Ivey has signaled she will sign, would be the first in the country to create a legal moat around embryos, blocking lawsuits or prosecutions if they are damaged or destroyed.

In this article VKTX Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNTCr | Istock | Getty ImagesBiotech company Viking Therapeutics has emerged as a strong potential entrant — or takeover target — in the budding weight loss drug market. Their treatments sparked the weight loss drug industry gold rush over the past year despite their hefty price tags and barriers to insurance coverage. It's too early to say whether Viking's drug could have an edge over existing or developing weight loss treatments. The pharmaceutical giant could also launch a slate of other weight loss treatments over the next few years that may have advantages over Zepbound, whether they offer more weight loss or convenience. That could give Viking the commercial and manufacturing capabilities needed to compete in the weight loss drug market.

It has been a tough year thus far for small-cap stocks, but Bank of America has some fresh ideas for finding value in the space. Despite a bounce this month, the Russell 2000 index of small-cap stocks has slipped a fraction this year while the large-cap S & P 500 has climbed almost 7%. Against that underperformance, Bank of America strategist Jill Carey Hall recently screened for small-cap value names with strong fundamentals. She scanned the Russell 2000 for profitable stocks that are in the top 20th percentile on one or more valuation metrics, including price-to-book, price-to-earnings and enterprise value-to-sales ratios. 2023 was the year of large-cap stocks, but 2024 may go down as the year small caps made their comeback. Small stocks, big possibilitiesEarlier this year, Bank of America’s head of US small & mid-cap strategy Jill Carey Hall outlined her take on so-called “SMID-cap” stocks in 2024. Her argument is simple: small-cap stocks are cheap, particularly value stocks, and they’re well-positioned to capitalize on market trends this year.
