In regular trading on Monday, crypto exchange platform Coinbase gained 5% and bitcoin proxy MicroStrategy jumped nearly 9%. The price of bitcoin was last higher by about 3% at $69,925.00, according to Coin Metrics. Bitcoin briefly climbed above $70,000 as investors braced themselves for MicroStrategy earnings and counted the days to the U.S. presidential election. The outcome is widely viewed as a key catalyst for the price of bitcoin, but investors have watching and waiting as the election approaches. Last week, bitcoin surged toward $70,000, but it ultimately fell short of the threshold.

New York CNN —Rao’s Homemade, the fast-growing sauce brand that originated in its namesake Harlem restaurant, is perhaps getting its biggest national exposure to date: a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Alan Creveling, Rao’s vice president of marketing, told CNN that the brand’s awareness among consumers lags far behind its entrenched competitors. A rendering of Rao's float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Designing and building the float is about a nine-month process and, as part of the deal with Macy’s, Rao’s float will be featured in the parade for the next three years.

AdvertisementWe're not in a recessionTo determine whether the economy is in recession, it helps to first define the term. Sure, the yearlong payrolls were adjusted down, but the story has largely been the same: This is a cooling but not collapsing labor market. Despite the 50-basis-point interest-rate cut by Chairman Jerome Powell and the rest of the Fed, there's evidence of additional slowing in the labor market. Since the rate cut, I've grown more confident that it will act in the face of weaker employment data. If the labor market deteriorates and the unemployment rate increases, we ought not to rule out another 50-basis-point move.

As Elon Musk continues to aggressively share conspiracy theories and misinformation about elections on X, election officials are fighting back. In three instances in the last month, Musk's posts highlighting election misinformation have been viewed over 200 times more than fact-checking posts correcting those claims that have been published on X by government officials or accounts. False claims he has posted this month routinely receive tens of millions of views, by X’s metrics, while rebuttals from election officials usually receive only tens or hundreds of thousands. “He is at least implicitly telling people: don’t trust the people that are running elections, trust me, trust x.com, trust Donald Trump. “You’re constantly building up a kind of armor against rationality, against fact-finding, and against the idea that election officials and responsible media can even be credible,” he said.

An army of Chinese-controlled social media bots is attempting to influence voters in Alabama, Texas and Tennessee while denigrating Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, according to research published Wednesday by Microsoft. The troll network has “parroted antisemitic messages, amplified accusations of corruption and promoted opposition candidates,” according to Microsoft. The bots amplified support for Blackburn’s election rival while spreading claims that she took money from pharmaceutical companies. Moore, McCaul and Blackburn are all running for re-election next month. The Microsoft researchers found the influence effort did not result “in high levels of engagement.” The report did not provide any metrics for how many Americans viewed the relevant social media posts.

But there are some weak points — like a growing federal debt load. There are a few less-rosy data points out there, like rising long-term unemployment and a historically high level of federal debt. Federal debt is high compared to GDP, even looking beyond the spike of the debt as a share of GDP during the pandemic. While federal debt as a share of GDP was slightly above 100% before the pandemic, recent figures are much higher than in the past. Federal debt was 120% of GDP in the second quarter of this year.

Investors should look beyond the so-called "Magnificent Seven" and identify "country winners" in tech outside the U.S., according to one hedge fund manager. Beeneet Kothari, CEO and principal portfolio manager at the U.S.-headquartered hedge fund Tekne Capital Management, said there are global tech stocks that also make good investments right now. "Our view is that there is a Magnificent Seven set of companies in each of the major economies in the world [which] you can buy for a fraction of the value," he told CNBC Pro earlier this month. The Magnificent Seven stocks — Alphabet , Amazon , Apple , Meta Platforms , Microsoft , Nvidia and Tesla — have dominated investor interest in tech over recent years. During a recent Indeed Leadership Connect cohort, where like-minded TA leaders come together to share challenges and solutions, AI technology in recruiting was the main topic. How do hiring professionals respond to job candidates who are also using AI? When using AI tools to generate external-facing content, always include human oversight to mitigate the risk of irrelevant or biased content. This still saves time versus starting from scratch — and the more you use AI technology, the smarter it becomes. Key takeaways: Think beyond automation with AI; use the efficiency gains to rethink parts of your hiring process.

LOS ANGELES — Netflix is due to report third-quarter earnings after the closing bell Thursday. Wall Street will be paying close attention to details surrounding the company's advertising-supported business model, upcoming live sporting events and the continued effects of its password crackdown on subscriber numbers. After all, this is one of the last times Netflix will report subscriber data to shareholders, as it plans to focus on revenue and other financial metrics as performance indicators. This has led some Wall Street analysts to predict that Netflix will soon announce price hikes. New Street Research analyst Dan Salmon and Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne both noted expected price increase announcements in recent research notes to investors.
