AI Makes Hacking Easier, Even for Non-HackersGenerative artificial intelligence tools, like ChatGPT, are opening up new avenues for cybercriminals, even ones without traditional hacking skills. WSJ reporter Robert McMillan joins host Zoe Thomas from Las Vegas, where those new techniques are on display. Plus, why more people are using celebrities to deliver bad news. CNN —A man dubbed “the Easter bunny” by police has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for stealing 200,000 chocolate eggs. On February 11, 32-year-old Joby Pool stole £31,000 ($40,000) worth of Cadbury Creme Eggs, after breaking into an industrial unit and making off with the haul in a stolen truck, the PA Media news agency reported. Cadbury, which is owned by US food company Mondelez International, told CNN it sells 220 million Creme Eggs in Britain every year. According to PA, Pool was jailed by Judge Anthony Lowe for a year and a half at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Thursday. The court heard Pool had used a stolen tractor to tow the trailer full of eggs away from the industrial unit, PA reported.

Experts say the technology will help address a steep and prolonged slowdown in productivity growth in many Western economies, which has kept businesses’ costs higher than they would otherwise be and made inflation harder to tame. “AI has huge potential to increase productivity,” BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said at the company’s Investor Day last month. Productivity gains in Europe could be similar, albeit slightly smaller, Brynjolfsson told CNN. In some cases, productivity gains could be achieved sooner. That’s because most generative AI tools live on the internet — “the technology we already have on our desks” — making them widely accessible, Brynjolfsson said.

Fine wine is souring as investment prices sink
  + stars: | 2023-07-12 | by ( Nicole Goodkind | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
New York CNN —Fine wine prices have been rising consistently for years, attracting investors looking to hedge against inflation, economic turmoil and stocks. The company currently manages $375 million worth of fine wine assets (that’s a 45% increase year on year). Fine wine has had a compound annual growth rate of 10% over the last 30 years, according to the Liv-Ex investables index, which tracks the going rates for fine wines. Leading the way in losses is Bordeaux, which experienced the largest drop of all fine wine categories in June. That’s a bit worrisome, said Tiwari, as Bordeaux is the most established region in the fine wine investment market and typically maintains its price stability.

And I study higher education, inequality, the internet, and race, class, and gender — all the fun stuff. The Supreme Court decisions are painting a bigger picture of the American dream as one where the scales have been righted back to the original vision of this nation. What we have done is we have voided the 20th century American dream. That is, who will write the new rules for a forward-facing American dream? I do not see a sense of urgency about writing a version of an American dream that appropriately and accurately diagnoses that we’ve lost something here.

But Shopify's logistics acquisitions, which came with around 550 more staff altogether, started to look like dead weight after the shine of the initial announcements wore off. By the beginning of 2023, the attitude toward logistics inside Shopify had shifted to palpable frustration, four people who worked for Shopify's logistics division said. Lance McMillan/Toronto Star via Getty ImagesIndependent of logistics, Shopify saw massive cultural shifts in the past several years. One core tenet of Shopify's work culture is "default to open," meaning it values transparency and sharing information with employees. The letter referred to Shopify's logistics work of the past four years as a "side quest" that distracted the company from its "main quest."

It’s important to note that faculty members do not drive the creation of courses in gender studies, ethnic studies and the like. To attract those students, universities have created courses that put disciplinary knowledge in the context of the world they will graduate into. DeSantis’s political posturing against his own universities on the national stage is also the work environment for thousands of university professionals in Florida. The Eight Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo organizers thought a lot about those questions. Opinion America Is Waking Up From a DreamWhen “Ted Lasso” premiered in 2020, it was supposed to rehab masculinity’s brand. “Ted Lasso” asked us to believe that we could rehabilitate American masculinity without rehabilitating the strictures of gender. “Ted Lasso” premiered near the aftermath of Trump’s presidency, with Covid still roaring. Ted asked Rebecca to hire a private detective to spy on his estranged wife and her new boyfriend. The “Ted Lasso” finale is satisfying fan service about the power of friendship, but altogether the uneven third season teaches us a more important lesson.
