Despite a difficult quarter, McDonald’s looks resilient in the face of various pressures, analysts say — something the company shares with U.S. consumers overall. “The spotlight is always on McDonald’s because it’s so big” and something of a “bellwether,” she said. That spurred former President Donald Trump to sling fries this month at a Philadelphia-area McDonald’s in a photo op. Like many major brands, McDonald’s raked in big profits as the economy reopened from the pandemic. “The thing that McDonald’s had struggled with, and why I think we’re seeing kind of an inflection point, is a value proposition,” Senatore said.

Legal experts say an attempt to overturn the 2024 election results would be more difficult than in 2020. And a lost Chopin waltz is discovered after 200 years. Legal experts say those changes would make another attempt to overturn the result of the election much more difficult and unlikely. If Trump attempted to overturn the election result in Congress, he’d be up against the bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act. This election season, voters said they are disillusioned by both major parties, especially over the handling of the war in Gaza.

Kamberlyn Bowler, 15, said she ate McDonald's Quarter Pounders in the days before she became ill.At least 75 people have been infected with E. coli in an outbreak that McDonald's has said is likely linked to slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders. The previously healthy, active 15-year-old is now hospitalized and battling kidney failure — a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of E. coli poisoning. Kamberlyn, of Grand Junction, Colorado, is one of dozens of people who say they became sick after having eaten McDonald’s Quarter Pounders. McDonald’s says the most likely source of the contamination was slivered onions served on its Quarter Pounders. On Oct. 18, she was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Colorado outside Denver, where she has remained ever since.

A week after health authorities publicly linked a deadly E. coli outbreak to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers, the company's CEO, Chris Kempczinski, told investors that the situation is now behind them. On Sunday, McDonald's said Quarter Pounder burgers would return to the roughly 900 restaurants where the company had pulled the menu item following the outbreak. McDonald's has stopped sourcing onions from the supplier indefinitely and will return the Quarter Pounder to menus sans slivered onions. As of Friday, 75 health cases across 13 states have been tied to the outbreak, including one death of an older adult. At least three lawsuits have already been filed against McDonald's by victims of the outbreak.

Ahead of Election Day, Business Insider spoke with voters about how family and reproductive healthcare access will influence their decision. Along the spectrum of support for abortion access, one common thread stood out: The cost of raising a family. In terms of abortion access, Trump has bragged about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade — a decision that led to 41 states with bans. In her first time voting for president, Sark said she plans to vote third party, likely for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. "I don't think that there's really anything that we can do about abortion in this election," Sark said.

McDonald's on Tuesday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that beat analysts' expectations as its U.S. restaurants reversed last quarter's same-store sales decline. It's the second straight quarter that the company's same-store sales have fallen. U.S. same-store sales rose 0.3%, reversing last quarter's same-store sales declines but still slightly weaker than the 0.5% increase predicted by StreetAccount estimates. The company's two international divisions both reported steeper declines in same-store sales compared with the prior quarter. The international developmental licensed markets division reported same-store sales declines of 3.5%, driven by weak demand in the Middle East and China.

New York CNN —Americans around the country avoided McDonald’s last week after an E. coli outbreak left dozens of people sick. On Wednesday, the day after the E. coli outbreak was announced, customer visits to McDonald’s dropped 6.4% across the country and 24% in Colorado, where the outbreak was most prevalent, according to Placer.ai, which tracks foot traffic to restaurants and retailers. “The issue appears to be contained to a particular ingredient and geography, and we remain very confident that any contaminated product related to this outbreak has been removed from our supply chain and is out of all McDonald’s restaurants,” McDonald’s said Sunday. The E. coli outbreak has overshadowed McDonald’s business and came as the chain was struggling to win back customers put off by higher prices. The quarter ended on September 30 and did not include sales following the announcement of the E. coli outbreak.

McDonald's says daily sales took a hit as some customers avoided its restaurants during the E. coli outbreak. AdvertisementA number of McDonald's US customers stayed away from the arches last week as news of the E. coli outbreak spread. The company said Tuesday that daily sales took a hit as customers avoided its restaurants during the health scare. Related storiesOver the weekend, health officials linked the outbreak to slivered onions from a single supplier, an ingredient ordinarily used on McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers. McDonald's began resuming sales of Quarter Pounders in the affected areas this week, although some locations will not serve the entrée with onions.

Brittany Randall believes her 15-year-old daughter contracted E. coli after eating at McDonald's. My 15-year-old daughter, Kamberlyn, ate the same meal at McDonald's, a Quarter Pounder with cheese and extra pickles, on September 25 and September 27. Ten days later, we were transferred to the nearest children's hospital for her to receive dialysis treatment for a life-threatening complication of E. coli. Kamberlyn told me she felt a bit better after receiving fluids from the hospital. The Food and Drug Administration has identified the onions on McDonald's Quarter Pounders as a possible source of this outbreak.

New York CNN —Even for a brand as gargantuan as McDonald’s, the last few months have been… a lot. The timing of the outbreak is especially challenging for McDonald’s as it has been trying to win back customers who’ve been put off by higher prices. Over the summer McDonald’s did an about face to try to win people back. “It had been a pretty strong quarter.”And absent the E. coli outbreak, Tuesday’s earnings call might have been all about the value menu and the Crocs. The length and severity of the outbreak is now a wild card for analysts as they assess McDonald’s financial future.
