A 37-year-old Tennessee man was charged over alleged social media threats against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama, according to a press release from the Department of Justice. Kyl Alton Hall was indicted Tuesday on two counts of threatening a sitting president or vice president and one count of a threat to a former president. The U.S. Secret Service investigated the case, which will be prosecuted by the national security and civil rights unit in the local U.S. attorney’s office. A spokesperson for the Secret Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The charges come the same week that all three officials — Biden, Harris and Obama — appeared in Chicago to speak at the Democratic National Convention, where Harris accepted her party’s presidential nomination.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, retweeted a parody Kamala Harris campaign ad Friday without labeling it as misleading, an apparent violation of his own platform's rules. Ismail Kadare, the Albanian novelist and poet who single-handedly wrote his isolated Balkan homeland onto the map of world literature, creating often dark, allegorical works that obliquely criticized the country’s totalitarian state, died in Tirana, Albania, on Monday. In a literary career that spanned half a century, Mr. Kadare (pronounced kah-dah-RAY) wrote scores of books, including novels and collections of poems, short stories and essays. He shot to international fame in 1970 when his first novel, “The General of the Dead Army,” was translated into French. Mr. Kadare’s name was floated several times for the Nobel Prize, but the honor eluded him. In 2005, he received the inaugural Man Booker International Prize (now the International Booker Prize), awarded to a living writer of any nationality for overall achievement in fiction.

Florida GOP Rep. Bill Posey announced Friday that he won't seek re-election. In a statement, Posey, who was first elected to Congress in 2008, said, "It has been the greatest honor of Katie's and my life to represent you in Congress. The Republican primary will now feature former Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos, who jumped into the race on Friday, Joe Babits of Vero Beach and John Hearton of Satellite Beach. Posey added, "Mike knows our district and has stayed involved at local, state, and federal levels. Twenty-five Democrats have also announced that they won't seek re-election.
