Police are investigating a threatening, homophobic e-mail sent to WNBA power forward Breanna Stewart's wife as the New York Liberty compete in the finals. “Being in the Finals and everything like that it makes sense to file something formal,” Stewart said. The threat came after the Liberty lost in Game 1 of the WNBA finals against the Minnesota Lynx. Stewart told ESPN the threatening email came after the Game 1 loss. She said the league will meet with the players association, players and teams to address the matter using technology and prioritizing mental health and reinforcing security.

CNN —The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating “homophobic death threats” sent to New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart’s wife, Marta Xargay, via email after Game 1 of this year’s WNBA Finals. Stewart told ESPN’s NBA Today on Tuesday that the message was sent to Xargay, a former WNBA player, and that she and her wife had made the Liberty and league aware of the situation. “Sometimes, people are taking things a little bit too far and too out of context and Marta had gotten homophobic death threats,” Stewart told NBA Today’s Malika Andrews. CNN —Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard will miss the rest of the preseason due to inflammation in his right knee, head coach Ty Lue said on Monday. Leonard, a two-time NBA champion, is yet to play for the Clippers this preseason and will sit out the team’s final warmup game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. Lue said Leonard would “continue to keep rehabbing” his knee this week, according to Reuters. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported last month that Leonard underwent a procedure on his right knee during the offseason. Last week, Lue said he was “not sure” if Leonard would be able to play against Phoenix.

CNN —Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has joined the ranks of NFL team owners after his purchase of a minority share of the Las Vegas Raiders, the NFL has announced. Brady’s purchase, which the Associated Press reports is for a 5% ownership stake in the franchise, was approved Tuesday at a meeting of NFL owners in Atlanta. “I’m incredibly humbled and excited to have been unanimously approved as an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Brady said in a post on social media. The purchase agreement with the Raiders is the second partnership between Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis. In March 2023, it was announced that Brady had acquired an ownership stake in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, also owned by Davis.
