LAS VEGAS (AP) — First-time candidate Julius Peppers headlines a 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class that has a distinctive defensive feel. He was a first-team All-Pro five times in eight seasons and helped San Francisco reach three straight conference title games and one Super Bowl. Freeney was the defensive star on the stellar Colts teams led by Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. Johnson became the first player to spend the bulk of his career with the Texans to make the Hall of Fame. McMichael had 95 career sacks as a defensive tackle, was selected as an All-Pro in 1985 and ’87 and was a second-teamer two other times.

They all have one thing in common: Those companies paid seven figures to get their products in front of viewers during this year’s Super Bowl. For the second consecutive year, the average cost of a 30-second ad spot during the Super Bowl was $7 million. Even as many businesses are being more disciplined with the money they have for marketing, and with spending on advertising slowing in recent years, the cost of a Super Bowl ad continues to go up. The reason is simple: There is no opportunity guaranteed to reach more people than the Super Bowl, and the slice of every other pie keeps shrinking. “It’s a throwback in terms of reaching everyone all at once,” said Charles Taylor, a professor of marketing at the Villanova School of Business.

New York CNN —Bud Light is back at the Super Bowl, this time with a funny “genie” to grant drinkers’ wishes. The 60-second spot, called “Easy Night Out,” is part of Bud Light’s year-long rebrand that debuted at last year’s Super Bowl. The brand has been in crisis mode ever since, and the Super Bowl commercial is part of its effort to turn around perception. “We wanted to get back to the humor the brand has been known for,” Bud Light’s vice president Todd Allen told CNN. 2024 BUD LIGHT SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL | EASY NIGHT OUT | EASY TO DRINK EASY TO ENJOY :60Bud Light launched its new campaign — “Easy to Drink.

The San Francisco 49ers finally climbed back up the playoff mountain to return to the Super Bowl only to find a familiar foe waiting for them. When the Niners get a second shot at a Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs it will be a rare title game rematch in this short of a span. “How to Have Sex” is not didactic, however, which is what makes it so effective. And it starts out so fun, like a more innocent and realistic “Spring Breakers.”Parties on screen rarely feel as fun as they’re supposed to — the joy often looks a little forced. This is something Skye makes her feel self-conscious about while also trying to push her to get rid of on the trip. There is a hard turning point when things stop being fun in “How to Have Sex,” when one morning Tara is missing from both hotel rooms. “How to Have Sex,” a MUBI release in select North American theaters Friday, has not been rated by the Motion Picture Association.

CNN —It’s Oscars season and “Barbie” is dominating the discourse. But here’s the thing; “Barbie” is neither smart enough nor interesting enough to be inspiring this level of uproar. It’s also important to remember that “Barbie” has most certainly not been ignored by the Academy Awards’ members. It has eight nominations – which is far more than many of 2023’s other women-directed films got. While “Barbie” achieved cultural phenomenon status last year, other films that took a more complicated approach to womanhood were shut out of the Oscars and the mainstream awards circuit completely.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio has banned gender-affirming care for minors and restricted transgender women’s and girls’ participation on sports teams, a move that has families of transgender children scrambling over how best to care for them. The new law bans gender-affirming surgeries and hormone therapies, and restricts mental health care for transgender individuals under 18. The measure also bans transgender girls and women from girls and women’s sports teams at both the K-12 and collegiate level. One advocate, while singing that Jesus loves transgender children, was escorted out of the Senate chamber. At least 23 states have now enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and many of those states face lawsuits.

N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Black and Latino voters sued in federal court on Monday seeking to strike down congressional districts drawn this fall by Republican state legislators that they argue weaken minority voting power in violation of the U.S. Constitution. Under the iteration of the congressional map that had been drawn by state judges for the 2022 elections, Democrats and Republicans each won seven seats. Meanwhile, the number of minority voters grows in the 12th, which is represented by Rep. Alma Adams of Charlotte. Rep. Jeff Jackson, a Mecklenburg County Democrat, already said he’s running for state attorney general, saying he can’t win reelection under the new congressional map. The latest congressional map “continues North Carolina’s long tradition of enacting redistricting plans that pack and crack minority voters into gerrymandered districts designed to minimize their voting strength," the plaintiffs' lawyers write.
