Historical bull market records indicate that stocks are more than likely to rally further from here, according to Carson Group. The current bull market turns two years old this week (S & P 500 bottomed on October 12, 2022). Data from Carson Group analyzing S & P 500 data showed that the existing bull market is still just the second youngest of the 12 since 1950. "Although many might think this bull market has gone too far and is getting old, that isn't the case at all. The 10-year Treasury yield was down by over two basis points at 3.998%, while the yield on the 2-year Treasury was 5 basis points lower at 3.949%. U.S. Treasury yields were slightly lower early Tuesday, reversing course after the 10-year hit it highest level in more than two months during the previous session. The 10-year jumped above 4% on Monday amid stronger labor market readings and despite the start of a Federal Reserve rate-cutting campaign last month. The 10-year yield was up more than 4 basis points to 4.024%, its highest since early August and a big turnaround from its 2024 low of around 3.58%, reached a little more than a month ago. The yield on the 2-year Treasury was up nearly 6 basis points to 3.989%.

Despite the major indexes trading near their all-time highs, there are still plenty of stocks that JPMorgan is bearish on in the coming quarter. Against this backdrop, JPMorgan surveyed its analysts for their top short ideas, or stocks that might underperform going into the fourth quarter. Shares have risen 9% in 2024, leading to what JPMorgan analyst Michael Rehaut believes is an expensive valuation. JPMorgan analyst Kenneth Goldman also has an underweight rating on Beyond Meat . "Plant-based meat continues to struggle as the fad fades," the analyst wrote.

Here are the bank's five scenarios: Above 200,000 jobs added: The S & P 500 trades flat or as much as 0.5% higher. Between 160,000 to 200,000 jobs added: The S & P 500 gains between 1% and 1.5%. Between 140,000 to 160,000 jobs added: The S & P 500 rises by 0.75% to 1.25%. Between 110,000 to 140,000 jobs added: JPMorgan traders see the S & P 500 sliding between 0.5% and 1.5%.

Though the S & P 500 is up more than 20% in 2024, Evercore ISI sees a patch of volatility ahead as the November presidential election approaches — and the firm has stocks to play either outcome. Evercore ISI thinks that automotive components manufacturer Aptiv could rise in the event of a Harris/Walz win. Evercore ISI called the bank "a flight to quality name," saying it was in a competitive position despite an uncertain backdrop. If Trump wins, Charter Communications is one stock that could benefit from a "potentially benign tax environment" and a pickup in M & A activity, Evercore ISI said. Supermarket operator Kroger could also outperform due to its ability to pass through higher prices to consumers, according to Evercore ISI.

Shares of Latam Airlines relisted on the New York Stock Exchange in July, after the company filed for bankruptcy in 2020. Meanwhile, the analyst noted that Latam Airlines offers "unparalleled connectivity" as the largest full service carrier in South America, which is still somewhat under-penetrated. These routes, where Latam Airlines has a market monopoly, are likely among the company's most profitable.

Nio – U.S.-listed shares surged more than 13% after the Chinese electric vehicle maker announced it will receive a cash injection of 13.3 billion yuan for its Nio China.
