At Musk's 2013 birthday bash, he and Larry Page discussed AI's role in humanity's future, per biographer Walter Isaacson's retelling. Page labeled Musk a "specist," while Musk defended his views as "pro-human." Musk even attempted to stop Google's acquisition of AI company DeepMind, saying Page shouldn't control the future of AI, Isaacson wrote in a Time Magazine report. Per Isaacson, the reason behind the thwarting attempt was Musk's distrust of then-CEO of Google, Larry Page, and his views towards AI. Musk, Page, and Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, sent outside regular business hours.

Google is about to celebrate its 25th birthday but all its CEO can think about is AI. CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blogpost that AI "may be bigger than the internet itself." Google has focused more on AI after ChatGPT threatened to rock its core business earlier this year. But its CEO can't help but think about how AI is about to be a much bigger deal. In the Tuesday blogpost, Pichai said AI represented a "fundamental rewiring of technology and an incredible accelerant of human ingenuity."

It's a sign that top Silicon Valley executives are embracing a new era of the tech bro. The term "tech bro" has been around for the better part of a decade, but what it means to be a tech bro has changed over time. Apple’s new challenge: making VR headsets look cool
  + stars: | 2023-06-10 | by ( Jennifer Korn | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
But behind this speculation is a more serious potential problem: even Apple may struggle to make VR headsets look cool. The new headset, which blends both virtual reality and augmented reality, is Apple’s most ambitious – and riskiest – new hardware product in years. In one early marketing image, a woman is shown wearing the headset while dressed in very chic clothing and lounging in an upscale living room. Apple’s silhouette ads in the early 2000s somehow managed to make not just iPods look cool, but also wired headphones. People use phones as Apple's Vision Pro headsets are on display at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California, U.S. June 5, 2023.

Stanford, UCLA and USC are in the top 10 schools with grads who have gotten private startup funding. Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Southern California rank among some of the top schools to produce startup founders that recently got private funding, according to Crunchbase. Other California-based colleges to make the list of schools include the University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, San Diego, and the California Institute of Technology. The data also details the business schools that some of the startup founders attended. The fact that hundreds of new startup founders have been able to secure funding is a bit surprising considering the current state of the venture capital industry.

Phil Rosen: The MBA's Purchase Applications Payment Index just hit a new high in April. For new home buyers, this is the worst situation since the end of the Great Recession. Current homeowners that were lucky enough to get a 2.75% interest rate in 2022 are in a great position, but for new buyers looking to buy a first home, or those looking to move to another home, it's a very daunting proposition. In his view, monthly payments for first-time buyers are up roughly one-third compared to last year — and that's going to keep buyers on the sidelines and weigh on demand.

Anyway, this lopsided distribution is exactly what's showing up in the stock market right now. The S&P 500 has climbed about 9.2% this year, but just five stocks are powering most of that gain in an even more extreme rendition of the Pareto distribution. In previous streaks of strong outperformance of five months or more by supersized companies, he pointed out that the S&P 500 has averaged returns of 6.7% in the subsequent six months. "[P]utting mega caps aside, we found that narrow market breadth in general does not represent a bad omen for S&P 500 performance despite the contrary narrative being pushed by many investors," Belski added. What's your outlook for the rest of the stock market this year, not including mega-caps?

The city near San Francisco is one of the richest areas of the country, on average. It's also part of a trend which has wealthy Americans creating trusts or LLCs to buy homes. It's also a prime example of a new trend among the country's wealthiest homebuyers, according to the Chronicle. On one block highlighted by the Chronicle's report, just two of the 12 homes are actually owned by individual people, with the rest owned by trusts, LLCs, or other kinds of corporations. "If someone sets up a trust, it's almost like a corporation that continues to live beyond the person," Michael Repka, CEO and managing broker for DeLeon Realty, told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Twitter alleges "unauthorized" data usage by Microsoft

May 18 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc has alleged that Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) violated an agreement over using the social media company's data, according to a letter seen by Reuters on Thursday. Twitter owner Elon Musk's lawyer leveled accusations of "unauthorized" usage of Twitter's data by Microsoft, including sharing data with government agencies without permission in some cases. A Microsoft spokesperson said the company on Thursday heard from a law firm representing Twitter with some questions about its previous use of the free Twitter APIs. Twitter's accusations come at a time when Elon Musk is at odds with Microsoft over its artificial intelligence platform. Musk said in April he will launch AI platform "TruthGPT" to challenge the offerings from Microsoft and Google.

A Tesla spokesperson told The Times, "It is incorrect to say that Epstein ever advised Elon on anything." Epstein killed himself in August 2019, a month after federal authorities arrested him on an indictment charging him with child sex trafficking.
WILMINGTON, Delaware, May 15 (Reuters) - The U.S. Virgin Islands has subpoenaed Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) CEO Elon Musk for documents in its lawsuit accusing JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) of helping enable sexual abuses by late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Virgin Islands did not provide further explanation for its interest in obtaining documents from Musk. In the subpoena, the Virgin Islands demanded any documents Musk has about Epstein’s involvement in human trafficking and his procurement of girls or women for commercial sex. Additionally, the subpoena sought any communications between the entrepreneur and JPMorgan about Epstein as well as between Musk and Epstein. Musk is the second tech entrepreneur touched by the Virgin Islands litigation.
