All three states lean heavily Republican in federal elections, yet Democrats currently control the governorship in two out of the three. As usual, we are rating these races on the following scale: Safe Republican, Likely Republican, Lean Republican, Toss-Up, Lean Democratic, Likely Democratic and Safe Democratic. The race moving in the Republican direction is Louisiana, which we’re shifting from Likely Republican to Safe Republican. But for now, we’ll keep it at Likely Republican. That may be in tune with Kentucky voters, who, despite the state’s Republican lean, rejected a 2022 ballot measure that would have enhanced the state’s ability to outlaw abortion.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal appeals court Friday significantly whittled down a lower court's order curbing Biden administration communications with social media companies over controversial content about COVID-19 and other issues. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans on Friday said the White House, the Surgeon General, the Centers for Disease Control and the FBI cannot “coerce” social media platforms to take down posts the government doesn’t like. Even the appeals court’s softened order doesn’t take effect immediately. The administration has 10 days to seek a Supreme Court review. The case was heard by judges Jennifer Walker Elrod and Edith Brown Clement, nominated to the court by former President George W. Bush; and Don Willett, nominated by former President Donald Trump.

Wright then filed a defamation suit against the former students, seeking $108 million in damages. Reuters/ReutersUltimately, Depp won $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages in his defamation case against Heard. And juries appear to be more receptive to ruling on behalf of defamation claimants, especially after big wins in cases like Depp's, Lovell told Insider. "By showing he's going through the legal system and going after them for $108 million dollars, it makes a statement," Lovell said about Wright's legal strategy. "These cases are rarely about monetary damages and are more often a vehicle to repair a reputation," Pearson told Insider.

ROME, Aug 31 (Reuters) - An emotional Luc Besson brought his latest film "Dogman" to the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, returning to the limelight two months after France's top appeals court rejected a request to reopen a rape claim against him. Besson had always denied the accusation, which had threatened to turn him into a pariah in the movie industry, and he did not mention the case as he spoke to reporters ahead of the Venice premiere. When you have both you're lucky," said the French filmmaker, who was applauded by many of the journalists. You just have to work and work and keep what's good and work on what's not good and work on it again." "Dogman" is one of 23 movies competing for the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival, which runs until Sept. 9.

July 31 (Reuters) - A group of Democratic state attorneys general has urged a federal appeals court to lift an order sharply curbing the ability of government officials to push social media companies to moderate content they deem harmful. Circuit Court of Appeals that the order hampers efforts by government officials to stop the spread of false information. A federal judge on Tuesday limited Biden officials' contacts with social platforms, per The NYT. The ruling would be a major setback in federal officials' efforts to combat misinformation online. The ruling has dramatic implications for technology companies, which often speak with government officials throughout elections and national emergencies. The ruling is likely to be appealed by the Biden administration, the Times said. The White House and several large tech companies didn't immediately respond to the Times' request for comment.

It was a far cry from just two years ago, when Young was the up-and-coming N.B.A. darling who unexpectedly led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals after the team had missed the postseason three years in a row. This time, Young gave the Celtics fits — averaging 29.2 points and 10.2 assists over the series — but Boston dumped Young’s Hawks from the playoffs in six games. Now Young, who just finished his fifth season, is facing an existential challenge more daunting than any one playoff round: the Narrative. And how is he continuously taking his game 1 percent better, 2 percent better over time?
