Cancer is typically associated with older people, but the percentage of colorectal cancer cases in those under 55 doubled between 1995 and 2019, from 11% to 20%, according to the American Cancer Society. However, it's understood that lifestyle factors such as being overweight, being physically inactive, drinking alcohol, and eating lots of red meat and ultra-processed foods increase colon cancer risk, Meredy Birdi, a cancer dietitian based in London, told Business Insider. There's good evidence that eating fiber lowers colorectal cancer risk, she said. She shared three high-fiber lunch recipes that could help prevent colorectal cancer with BI. Seoul, South Korea CNN —North Korea claims it is sending 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers toward its border with South Korea, in the latest bellicose declaration by leader Kim Jong Un against its neighbor. Photographs published by the North Korean state newspaper Rodong Sinmun showed what appears to be vehicle-based missile launchers, with dozens of large green military trucks lined up in neat rows before Kim. Kim personally oversaw the transfer of equipment to military commanders and chiefs of staff, and delivered a speech claiming the new missile launchers were built with North Korean technology, state media reported. In response to the North Korean buildup, the US and South Korea – along with Japan – have stepped up their military cooperation via exercises and deployments that Pyongyang sees as a threat. There have been at least three incidents of South Korea firing warning shots since May after North Korean military personnel crossed the demarcation line, the midpoint of the Demilitarized Zone between the two countries.

Yum Brands hopes to use artificial intelligence to take down drive-thru orders at hundreds of Taco Bell restaurants by the end of this year. In May, executives said Taco Bell would expand its pilot of voice AI from five locations to 30 restaurants in California. Currently, more than 100 Taco Bell restaurants in the U.S. use voice AI. Taco Bell had nearly 7,700 U.S. locations at the end of 2023, according to company filings. Five KFC restaurants in Australia are also testing voice AI tech in drive-thrus, Yum Brands said.

Taco Bell is set to expand the use of artificial intelligence voice technology in its drive-thrus to hundreds of US locations by the end of this year, parent company Yum! The move means that when users pull up to place their order at a Taco Bell, there’s a good chance they will be talking to a computer, rather than a human employee, on the other end. McDonald’s said last month it was pulling the plug on the AI ordering technology that it was testing at more than 100 US drive-thrus, after customers complained about the system getting their orders wrong. Brands, told CNN he’s confident that his company’s technology — which is already in use at 100 Taco Bell locations across 13 states — won’t have the same issues. Kim also denied that AI ordering technology would replace human jobs, a growing concern around all manner of new AI tools.

The Basic Income Guaranteed: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Pilot, or BIG:LEAP, gave over 3,200 households $1,000 in monthly no-strings-attached cash payments for 12 months starting in January 2022. BIG:LEAP compared the outcomes of households receiving cash payments to nearly 5,000 households with similar incomes and family situations in the control group. In the last six months, participants were more likely to establish proximate safety and work toward protecting themselves in the future. Overall, it stands in contrast to what some critics of basic income argue, including that cash payments majorly reduce employment or don't prepare participants for the future. Housing cost burdens decreased among all study participants.

In fact, they're often specifically designed to be irresistible, a scientist who used to work with UPF companies told Business Insider. But over time, Smith said companies became more interested in enhancing food to make it irresistible to the point where people feel they can't stop eating it. That's because sonic branding, or associating a sound with a product, can make us want to consume it, Smith said. How a chocolate bar sounds when it snaps can be engineered.
