A portion of the Grand Canyon with a name deemed "offensive" to Native Americans has been renamed in a move that one official called "long overdue," the National Park Service announced in a statement Monday. The park service instituted policies that forced the Havasupai people from the area — originally called Ha’a Gyoh — nearly a century ago, according to the statement. Havasupai Gardens is a frequent stopping point for hikers located off Bright Angel Trail, the park’s most popular hiking trail, according to the park service. The park service is also working with the Havasupai Tribe to plan a rededication ceremony for the area next spring. The Havasupai Tribe — whose name means "People of the Blue Green Waters" — have lived around the Grand Canyon for over 1,000 years, according to the tribe's website and the park service.

The FBI in Charlotte, North Carolina, has opened an investigation into the death of an American woman who died while vacationing in Mexico with friends. Shanquella Robinson and six others arrived in Cabo San Lucas on Oct. 28, her father, Bernard Robinson, told NBC News on Friday. Police in Cabo San Lucas and the FBI confirmed in separate statements that they are investigating the death. Her family told local news station WBTV of Charlotte that an autopsy report states that Shanquella's neck had been broken and her spinal cord was cracked. FBI Charlotte said earlier Friday that the video was "referred" to its office, but declined to answer further questions about it.

More than a dozen headstones at an Illinois Jewish cemetery were vandalized with swastikas on Monday, police said. Police found 16 large headstones with “large red spray-painted swastikas” at Congregation Am Echod Jewish Cemetery in Waukegan, a city about 45 miles north of Chicago, according to a statement from Keith Zupec, chief of police for the Waukegan Police Department. Police also found another 23 headstones "that had been defaced with non-specific red spray-painted graffiti," according to the statement from Zupec. Similar antisemitic messages referencing the rapper's comments have also appeared over an L.A. freeway and at a Florida-Georgia football game last month. The vandalism at the Illinois cemetery comes as antisemitic incidents have been on the rise across the country.

The vintage aircraft in Saturday's deadly collision at a Dallas air show, as expected, lacked flight data recorders, making social media crucial to the investigation, a federal official indicated Sunday. Officials at the crypto giant FTX have moved all digital assets offline as they investigate possible theft of crypto assets following their bankruptcy filing, their general counsel announced late Friday. The Tennessee Valley Authority, which operated the Drakesboro plant, stopped using two of the towers in 2017, and the third in 2020, which effectively closed the plant after nearly 60 years.
