The U.S. is giving away and auctioning off lighthouses across the East Coast and Midwest. The GSA will also sell four lighthouses in Ohio, Connecticut, Michigan and New York in a public auction. But there's a catch: While the lighthouse is free, the new owners will be responsible for the cost of upkeep and maintenance. Warwick Neck Light is located on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island and is one of the lighthouses being given away for free. Kelly told TIME that there are nonprofits that already maintain some of the lighthouses being offered up this year.

CNN —Joran van der Sloot, the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, was “severely” beaten in a Peruvian prison, his attorney told ABC News on Monday. It may be connected to gang rules inside the Challapalca Prison where van der Sloot is being held, Altez said. Natalee Holloway was last seen alive with van der Sloot and two other men 18 years ago leaving a nightclub in Aruba. The three men – van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe – were arrested in 2005 and released due to insufficient evidence. They were rearrested and charged in 2007 for “involvement in the voluntary manslaughter of Natalee Holloway or causing serious bodily harm to Natalee Holloway, resulting in her death,” Aruban prosecutors said at the time.

But John McEntee, who worked as a top White House staffer when former President Donald Trump attempted to ban the app via executive order, says he's unabashedly "pro-TikTok" and insists the push from the right to ban the Chinese-owned app is "ridiculous." "I think Republicans are such nerds for even doing this," McEntee, the one-time Director of the Official of Presidential Personnel, told Insider in an interview on Thursday. In that job, he reportedly scrutinized White House staffers for their perceived loyalty and played a significant role in the effort to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the election results on January 6, 2021. In one widely-viewed TikTok, McEntee dances to Demi Lovato's "La La Land" while riffing on liberals attending their first protest, making hand-horns as Lovato sings the phrase "converse with my dress."

John Kelly had to deal with conflicts between Melania and Ivanka Trump, NYT journalist Michael Schmidt said. Schmidt's book "Donald Trump v. The United States" includes details about Kelly's time as White House chief of staff. Schmidt, who wrote the book "Donald Trump v. The United States," told MSNBC that Ivanka Trump wanted to be the first lady in a "ceremonial" sense. "John Kelly is probably as serious a national security figure as you can find, a four-star Marine general. Schmidt said that during Kelly's time in the White House, he was often forced to focus on less important issues, including telling former White House aide Omarosa to stop having parties at the White House pool.

As president, Donald Trump suggested nuking North Korea and blaming someone else, a new book extract says. It is alleged that Trump made the comments in 2017 around the time he was issuing public threats to North Korea. The revelation was made in a new afterword to the book "Donald Trump v. The United States" by New York Times Washington correspondent Michael Schmidt, due to be released on Tuesday. US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un talk before a meeting in the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) on June 30, 2019, in Panmunjom, Korea. Trump "would turn back to the possibility of war, including at one point raising to Kelly the possibility of launching a preemptive military attack against North Korea," the book said.
Later that month, Trump continued to goad North Korea through his tweets. But the argument about how many people could be killed had "no impact on Trump," Schmidt writes. Then, Trump "would turn back to the possibility of war, including at one point raising to Kelly the possibility of launching a preemptive military attack against North Korea," Schmidt said. Kelly warned that Trump would need congressional approval for a pre-emptive strike, which "baffled and annoyed" Trump, according to the afterword. Schmidt also writes that it was well-known among senior U.S. officials for several decades that North Korea sought to spy on U.S. decision-makers.
Mike Pence on NBC News said he was "disappointed" in ex-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows' tenure. He said "it was clear" that Meadows swayed Trump against the White House coronavirus briefings. The former vice president felt that the briefings served the public well earlier in the pandemic. What General John Kelly did when he became White House chief of staff, and what frankly all the best White House chiefs of staff have done throughout history, is make sure that the only people that get into the Oval Office are people that have the credibility to be there. Meadows served as White House chief of staff from March 2020, during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, until January 2021.

Anthony Scaramucci poked fun at British Prime Minister Liz Truss' abrupt resignation. Scaramucci congratulated Truss for lasting longer than he did in the White House. Truss did not outlast a head of lettuce which a British tabloid had pitted against her. "1 Scaramucci = carton of milk 1 Truss = head of lettuce," Scaramucci wrote on Twitter. That means Truss lasted "4.1 Scaramuccis," rounding up, of course.
Pras Michel, a founding member of the Fugees hip-hop group, is standing trial in DC next month. He's accused of illegally lobbying Trump officials to resolve an inquiry into the 1MDB scandal. In a court filing Sunday, prosecutors revealed a witness list that includes DiCaprio and top Trump administration officials, including former White House chief of staff John Kelly and former national security advisor H.R. As part of the scheme, prosecutors said, Michel recruited about 20 so-called "straw donors" who made campaign contributions with Low's money. Michel is charged with violating both FARA and that other statute, known as 951, in his alleged lobbying schemes.

Donald Trump once threatened to use his role as president to prosecute his political foes. A White House attorney had to explain to the then president that he had no such power. The episode was chronicled in "The Divider," a new book obtained by Insider ahead of its publication. "You can't prosecute anybody," McGahn told Trump, according to the book. Several former Trump White House and government officials have since recounted similar stories that suggest the former president was unfamiliar with the logistics of his newfound position.
John Kelly gave Trump a stark warning when he refused to lower flags in honor of John McCain's death. Kelly told Trump that he should reconsider because people will "piss" on his grave, according to an upcoming book. Trump kept flags raised at full staff until pressure from parties caused him to cave. "If you don't support John McCain's funeral, when you die, the public will come to your grave and piss on it," Kelly told Trump, according to an upcoming book from journalists Susan Glasser and Peter Baker. And in 2018, Trump signed a national defense bill that had been named after McCain, but Trump didn't mention his name once.
Trump's former chief of staff consulted a book to help him cope with the former president's erratic behavior. John Kelly used the book "to understand the president's particular psychoses," an upcoming book says. The book — called The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump — features examinations of Trump's behavior from 27 psychiatrists and mental health professionals. "Nevertheless, the personal health of a public figure is her private affair – until, that is, it becomes a threat to public health." Senior officials serving in the White House agreed with Kelly, Glasser and Baker reported in their book.

According to the book, Stephenson said he was not interested in selling CNN. The book said AT&T executives viewed the calls as "almost mob-style extortion," according to the Independent.
