Hate crime and terrorism charges were announced Thursday after a Jewish man was shot while walking to synagogue in Chicago over the weekend in what police now say was a “targeted” attack. On Thursday, Abdallahi was charged with an additional felony count of terrorism and one felony count of a hate crime, Chicago’s top cop, Supt. “We want everybody to know that we will never tolerate violence that’s rooted in hate and bigotry,” Snelling said during a press conference announcing the charges. “We are all working together to put an end to the hatred of our Jewish siblings.”Foxx noted that terrorism charges in such cases are rare. “Members of the Jewish Orthodox community are the most vulnerable to violent attacks,” Rabbi Sholomo Soroka said.

I tried the $1,000 Beef Case at Papi Steak, the celebrity-loved restaurant at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. AdvertisementWithin minutes of finding our table at Papi Steak, the flashy Miami transplant at the equally flashy Fontainebleau Las Vegas, an EDM song blasts from the speakers. But there'd be no $1,000 Beef Case without the original Papi steak, once just a fixture of Einhorn's star-studded barbecues. When the Fontainebleau Las Vegas opened its doors in 2023, the pair knew they wanted to bring their concept to the West Coast. And in a city like Las Vegas, plenty of hot spots use their Instagram clout and A-list clientele to mask a subpar dining experience.

Dubbed the Iron Beam, the shield aims to use high-power lasers to counter an array of projectiles, including missiles, drones, rockets and mortars, Israel’s defense ministry said this week. “The initial capability of the ground-based laser system… is expected to enter operational service within one year,” he said. Israel first unveiled a prototype of the Iron Beam in 2021 and has since been working to get it up and running. From Social MediaIt is unclear if Iran has developed a laser defense system of its own. Experts say the Iron Beam could also act as a deterrent to further attacks by Iran or its proxies.

President Harris would probably put more pressure on Israel to reach a cease-fire and open up talks with the Palestinians. Ukrainians worry that a President Trump would force a quick and dirty peace deal favorable to Russia. They hope a President Harris would continue to support them on the battlefield. WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday said she strongly disagrees with criticisms of groups of people based on the candidate they support. “President Biden was very clear that he’s speaking about the rhetoric we heard at that [rally] so it doesn’t undermine it," Walz said on "CBS Mornings." Harris has sought to walk a fine line in criticizing Trump while not alienating his supporters, pointing to Trump's divisive rhetoric. During an interview this month on Fox News, anchor Bret Baier asked Harris if she thought Trump voters were stupid. The shooting victim was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon, according to Debra Silverstein, the alderman for Chicago’s 50th Ward, where the shooting occurred. Hate crime charges still a question markAs some Jewish leaders call for hate crime charges, police say they still need to interview the suspect and collect evidence before considering such charges. On Monday, Silverstein said she was upset with the lack of hate crime charges in the case. “The police have assured me that they are continuing to gather evidence, and additional charges – including hate crime charges – can still be added,” Silverstein said. Shoshanah Conover, Senior Rabbi of Temple Sholom also said the community is frustrated with the lack of hate crime charges.

A Chicago man has been charged with 14 felonies after allegedly shooting a Jewish man who was on his way to a local synagogue. But some community leaders are questioning why hate crime charges have not been filed. Snelling said that there wasn't enough evidence to add hate crime charges to the list but said it remained a possibility. "A man wearing the kippah as he walked to synagogue was shot and this has just escalated our anxieties." But I think it’s equally important to understand that whether or not there is a hate crime charge, that’s a technicality.

Israel openly said it conducted “precise strikes” on military targets in Iran. “Israel now has broader aerial freedom of operation in Iran,” Israel’s military spokesman Daniel Hagari said, touting achievements in the attack. The idea was that if Israel were to strike Iran, Tehran would retaliate by unleashing its militias against Israel. Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that they have no intention of weaponizing the country’s nuclear program, while simultaneously using its potential as leverage in negotiations with the West. “Even the more hawkish American presidents have not favored taking military strikes because the most likely outcome is that, at some point, that will make Iran turn nuclear,” Parsi said.

Washington had pressed its ally in the hopes of ending the cycle of attacks and avoiding escalation into a wider war. Blinken said the U.S. is tracking the aid deliveries very carefully and “absolutely essential” that Israel comply. "Israel has achieved most of its strategic objectives when it comes to Gaza,” Blinken said in Tel Aviv. Israel’s Knesset opened its winter session on Monday against a backdrop of war in Gaza and Lebanon and after an Israeli strike on Iran on Saturday. UNRWAThe Knesset was set to debate on Monday bills that would make it illegal for Israeli officials to cooperate with UNRWA, the main U.N. agency that aids Palestinians. The bills would effectively shut down the agency’s work in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem within 90 days. According to the Jerusalem Post, the first bill states that UNRWA could no longer operate in Israel, while the second would abrogate the treaty that underpins the relationship between UNRWA and Israel. The Knesset has already voted in favor of advancing the bill and it is being prepared for a second and third reading.

It’s a feeling permeating the heavily Jewish neighborhood — and one that has affected how the swing-state community has processed the 2024 election. Novi, Michigan CNN —Former President Donald Trump on Saturday invited several Muslim leaders onstage with him at a campaign rally in Michigan as he courts Arab American and Muslim voters disillusioned or angry over US policy on Israel and Gaza in the critical battleground state. He was joined onstage by what his campaign described as “prominent leaders of Michigan’s Muslim community,” including Imam Belal Alzuhairi, who described Trump as the “peace” candidate. “We, as Muslims, stand with President Trump because he promises peace – he promises peace, not war,” Alzuhairi said.
