The New York Times reported Sunday that some 50,000 Russia and North Korean troops are set to take part in the assault. Reports that North Korea was sending troops to Russia began appearing last month, though both countries dismissed the allegations at the time. Russia and North Korea, both pariahs in the West, have forged increasingly friendly ties since Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. WASHINGTON — Tech mogul Elon Musk briefly joined President-elect Donald Trump's phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, according to a source familiar with the matter. Neither Zelenskyy nor Trump had previously disclosed that Musk was on the call. The New York Times reported earlier this week that a number of North Korean troops had been killed in a limited engagement with Russian and Ukrainian forces, citing senior US and Ukrainian officials. Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin defeated GOP former Rep. Mike Rogers in the race for Michigan’s open Senate seat, NBC News projects, a key hold in one of the most contested battleground states. Slotkin beat Rogers amid intense presidential campaigning between President-elect Donald Trump, who carried Michigan, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who ran behind Slotkin. Slotkin will replace Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a fellow Democrat first elected to the seat in 2000 who is retiring this year. Slotkin held the seat in two subsequent close elections before she ran for the Senate this election cycle. LGBT voters shifted even more solidly into the Democratic camp this year, according to the NBC News Exit Poll. Harris led President-elect Trump 86% to 12% among LGBT voters, the poll found. As in previous elections, LGBT voters stood out as one of the most left-leaning voter blocs in the electorate. Among LGBT voters, Democrats vastly outnumber Republicans, 56% to 5%, and liberals surpass conservatives, 61% to 5%. LGBT voters are staunchly pro-choice: 59% say abortion should be legal in all cases, a much higher level of support for abortion rights than among non-LGBTs, at 31%.
