My grandparents' vacation cabin in Lake Tahoe is the stuff of legend. My grandparents' little house in South Lake Tahoe, which they bought for $113,000 in 1984, quickly became a haven for my family. Framers of the Tahoe tax measure took inspiration from Berkeley, California, which adopted a vacancy tax this year. Since the city of South Lake Tahoe was incorporated in 1965, it's been populated by a healthy mix of year-round and seasonal residents. As of October 2024, the median sales price for homes in South Lake Tahoe was $750,000, according to Realtor.com.

But that hasn’t stopped abortion rights supporters from pushing for votes up and down the ballot. Across the South, supporters of abortion rights are using the issue to motivate voters. Although Texas does not have a statewide referendum on abortion, Rep. Colin Allred's Senate campaign has galvanized abortion rights supporters. A prison employee announced the execution could begin at 6:01 p.m. Moore took several deep breaths that sounded like snores over the next minute. Three jurors who condemned Moore to death in 2001, including one who wrote Friday, sent letters asking McMaster to change his sentence to life without parole. WASHINGTON — Speaking to a federal judge in July 2019, a flummoxed career Justice Department lawyer made a statement that summed up former President Donald Trump’s shoot-from-the-hip and often chaotic form of governance. The move put Justice Department lawyers in a quandary, led to the entire legal team’s being replaced and still ended in defeat when, just days later, the administration backed down. C/2024 S1 was a sungrazer, a comet that passes within a distance of about 850,000 miles (1,367,942 kilometers) from the sun. “Comets are really hard to predict, and sungrazing comets like this are even harder than most. NASA“Statistically, it’s extremely rare for sungrazing comets to survive (as they fly) past the Sun,” Battams told CNN in an email. A handful of larger sungrazing comets have been observed surviving their close pass by the sun, such as comet C/2011 W3 Lovejoy in 2011. However, any debris from C/2023 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS or C/2024 S1 will not pass near enough to Earth to produce a meteor shower, Cooke said.

CNN —Democrats are mounting an unprecedented digital advertising campaign in the closing weeks of the presidential race, pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into a targeted effort that the party hopes will tip the balance in one of the closest elections in US history. The effort is being steered by Future Forward PAC, or FF PAC, the largest single-candidate super PAC in the 2024 election. The 2024 election is poised to break the record set by the 2020 election and see $10.2 billion worth of campaign advertising, according to the ad tracking firm AdImpact. The ad laboratoryWith its massive war chest, FF PAC has faced the challenge of effectively and efficiently distributing its resources. FF PAC has not engaged in a comparable turnout effort, leaving that traditional campaign activity to the cash-flush Harris operation.
