Denmark on Wednesday laid out a framework that can help EU member states use generative artificial intelligence in compliance with the European Union's strict new AI Act — and Microsoft 's already on board. Denmark's Agency for Digital Government, the country's central business registry CVR and pensions authority ATP are among the founding partners adopting the framework. This includes guidelines governing how the public and private sector collaborate, deploying AI in society, complying with both the AI Act and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), mitigating risks and reducing bias, scaling AI implementation, storing data securely, and training up staff. Netcompany CEO André Rogaczewski said the provisions laid out in the white paper were primarily aimed at companies in heavily regulated industries, such as in financial services. He told CNBC he's aiming to address one core question: "How can we scale the responsible usage of AI?"

While oil stocks tend to follow the direction of crude prices, the energy sector has gained 3.6% since election day, slightly outpacing the S & P 500. Conflicting signals The crude futures market and the oil and gas stocks appear to be taking different messages from Trump's victory. Since the election, natural gas stocks have been big winners on the prospect of more pipeline permitting. The oilfield services companies are also major beneficiaries under a Trump administration, West said. Oil surplus headwind More ominously, an oil and gas production boom under Trump would lower crude oil prices and likely act as a headwind for the industry.

The Japanese government has unlocked billions of dollars in subsidies for its domestic chip sector. One likely beneficiary of the funding announced Monday will be Japan-based Rapidus, a state-backed chip venture at the heart of the country's chip revitalization efforts. In the 1980s, Japan was the world's dominant chip player and occupied more than half of the global semiconductor market. Through its chip subsidies, which have mostly been geared toward increasing manufacturing capacity, the country should be able to expand into other aspects of the supply and enhance its position, Yang added.

Biden in 2020 did not gain ground across the country in as large a percentage of counties as Trump did in 2024. Chinese authorities last month announced high-level plans for subsidies and tax breaks to households with children under the age of 3. China's efforts to bolster birth rates have yet to address the core reasons for their rapid decline, according to analysts. Births in China have been on a drastic downward trend since the government implemented its "one-child policy" nationwide in 1980. An increasingly pressing factor for families in China is uncertainty about income for raising a child. After decades of rapid expansion, China's economy has slowed down, dragged down by a real estate slump.

Trump pledged on the campaign trail to impose a fresh era of trade tariffs, building on policies he enacted during his first term as president. European Union economic growth is already struggling, and has lagged behind the US in recent years. He said Europe's economic challenges, including high energy costs, sluggish economic growth, and geopolitical instability, would only get worse in the event of a tariff battle with the US.

Mass deportation would exacerbate this economic issue, say employers and economists. Leverant says it is still being determined how jobs lost from a mass deportation would be filled. "Looking at specific occupations, about one-quarter of farm workers, agricultural graders, and sorters are undocumented workers. "One of the natural problems with undocumented workers, we don't know how many are here because they are undocumented. A mass deportation is not possible without crippling economic impact," he said.
