Twice this year, US forces in the region have assisted Israel in intercepting an attack by Iran. Austin announced in early August that he was sending the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to the region; it arrived later that month. The strike group consists of thousands of sailors and Marines, spanning across three destroyers and a carrier air wing. The USS Spruance and USS Frank E. CNN —After an outstanding season in which she undoubtedly exceeded lofty expectations following a historic career at the University of Iowa, Caitlin Clark was named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year in a near-unanimous vote. She became the WNBA single-season assists record holder (337), an accomplishment which included a league-record 19 assists in one game. Her 8.4 assists per game average is also a WNBA record. ☆ Eli Lilly to build $4.5 billion research and manufacturing center to propel drug pipeline

Eli Lilly will spend $4.5 billion to build a center aimed at finding better ways to manufacture its medicines. The facility, called the Lilly Medicine Foundry, will house development of new manufacturing methods with an eye toward efficiency. It's a strategy that's already paying off with Lilly's obesity and weight loss drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound, and Lilly wants it to propel the rest of its pipeline. Lilly says the facility will be the first of its kind to combine research and production in a single location. It will be near a $9 billion manufacturing complex Lilly is building in Lebanon, Indiana, to produce pharmaceutical ingredients like tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound.

Indianapolis quarterback Anthony Richardson was ruled out for the rest of Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh after appearing to injure his hip in the first quarter. After being hit near the right hip on a 14-yard scramble downfield with 5:42 to play in the first quarter, Richardson, the second-year starter, immediately was seen reaching for the area. But on his first play back, Richardson struggled to run to his left on first-and-goal just 6 yards from the end zone and immediately left the game again, with Joe Flacco entering as the Colts’ replacement. The team initially ruled Richardson as questionable to return, but he was soon downgraded to out for the rest of the game. Shortly after he returned, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in October 2023 that required surgery.
