A Spanish airline was fined for enforcing a strict makeup and high heel policy on female crew. Vueling requires female crew to wear high heels and enforces makeup rules, per El Periódico. Catalonia's labor department fined the airline 30,000 euros (about $32,000) after a union complaint. The publication said Vueling's female cabin crew were required to wear high heels of between five and eight inches, and foundation that matches their skin tone. A Vueling representative said it was considering its options following the ruling but there was now "no gender distinction or obligation to wear make-up."

LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - British Airways-owner IAG (ICAG.L) forecast 2023 profit could jump almost 90% after its financial performance improved substantially last year and it agreed a deal to buy all of Spain-based Air Europa. For 2023, the airline group, which also owns Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus, forecast operating profit in the range of 1.8 billion euros ($1.91 billion) to 2.3 billion euros, compared to the 1.22 billion euros it made last year. That result came in ahead of analyst expectations and represented an improvement of 4 billion euros from the previous year when COVID-19 travel restrictions made airlines across the world loss-making. IAG agreed on Thursday to pay 400 million euros ($423.84 million) to Spain's Globalia for the remaining 80% of Air Europa it did not already own, a deal aimed at expanding its position in the Latin American market. The disaster is a reminder that large segments of the world’s population are as vulnerable to major earthquakes today as they were centuries ago. In fact, the scenes in Turkey are tragically similar to those reported on Nov. 1, 1755, when a massive earthquake hit Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, at approximately 9:45 a.m. The Great Lisbon Earthquake, as it became known, was one of the most consequential quakes in modern history, and its story can shed light on the challenges survivors face today—practical, political and even philosophical. There were no reliable seismometers in the 18th century, but the Great Lisbon Earthquake is estimated at between 8.5 and 9.2 on the moment magnitude scale—at least five times stronger than the initial quake in Turkey, which registered 7.8. Like the earthquakes in Turkey, the Lisbon temblor came with little or no warning.
