Vice President Kamala Harris will make an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, according to three people familiar with the planning. Harris’ cameo on the long-running variety series, where she’s been portrayed by actor Maya Rudolph, brings her to New York, away from the battleground states she’s been visiting in the final stretch of the campaign. "Maya Rudolph — I mean, she’s so good,” Harris said of her impression on “The View” last month, praising her “mannerisms” as well. A month earlier, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a cameo on the show and did an impersonation of Trump. Sarah Palin went on the show just weeks before the election as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll shows Harris leading Trump by 3 points in the state. Political experts told Business Insider that the Iowa poll is significant for the Harris campaign given that the demographic makeup of Iowa — rural, older, and largely white voters — is similar to some key swing states. AdvertisementThe Iowa Poll has scrambled the conventional wisdom that former President Donald Trump will easily win the state. And notably, 69% of female respondents in the Selzer poll opposed the law, while only 27% of Iowa women backed the new restrictions. In the Selzer poll taken in September, Reynolds' job approval rating sat at 45%, while 50% of Iowans disapproved of her performance.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — David Shockley doesn’t understand his son Darius’ political ideology. “It makes no sense,” said David, who is Black and plans to vote for former President Donald Trump for a second time. As mayor, Schieve has celebrated the new jobs and the growth of arts and culture in Reno and its surroundings. Unlike younger generations, who until recently may have taken federal abortion protections for granted, older women recall the era of illegal backroom abortions that preceded Roe. A fight for the senior voteNot all older women are motivated by abortion. But in a race that is expected to be decided on the margins, boosting support among women and older voters could make a difference. There are some signs in early voting data that women seniors are highly motivated to vote, said Tom Bonier, a Democratic strategist and CEO of the data firm TargetSmart. Welcome to the online version of From the Politics Desk, an evening newsletter that brings you the NBC News Politics team’s latest reporting and analysis from the campaign trail, the White House and Capitol Hill. The final undecided voters could sway the election. But in a narrowly divided presidential election, voters who have put off making a decision until the last minute could find themselves with the power to decide the future of the country. Late-deciding voters broke for Trump in 2020 and 2016, with some analysts and strategists in both campaigns crediting them for electing Trump eight years ago. And it was true in 2020, when the pandemic and debates played an oversize role in the election featuring Trump and Joe Biden.

Hinchliffe's Puerto Rico joke spawned the initial news cycle (and within 24 hours, a new digital ad from Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign). Washington CNN —The United States that Donald Trump describes in his rally speeches would be pretty bad if it actually existed. For the third consecutive presidential election, the Republican presidential nominee is running a relentlessly dishonest campaign for the world’s most powerful office. President Joe Biden, Trump’s initial opponent in this election, and Harris, Trump’s current opponent, certainly don’t. Nine years into Trump’s political career, daily fact-checking still isn’t happening enough. No matter what CNN writes, no matter how many “Pinocchios” The Washington Post awards him, he knows that far more of his supporters will hear the uncorrected false claim – through social media, pro-Trump media outlets and, yes, even many mainstream media outlets – than hear the truth.

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned around southwestern states this week as they sought to shore up the Latino vote with only five days until Election Day. Latino voters account for %14.7 of all eligible voters in the upcoming election, according to Pew Research Center. New Mexico, where Trump campaigned on Thursday, has the highest share of Latino voters with around 45% the population. The states with the next largest share of Latino voters include California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada. Although Democrats tend to have a historical advantage among Latino voters, that advantage has declined over the past four presidential cycles, according to a national NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC poll from September, especially as Trump makes strides with Latino men.

“Joe Biden should be ashamed of himself, if he knows what he’s even doing,” Trump said from the garbage truck. Former President Donald Trump held a press conference from inside a garbage truck at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport on Wednesday. Rep. He sidestepped a question about Biden’s remarks on Tuesday and Trump’s garbage truck gag response, saying he wasn’t focused on the matter. I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.

From 2008 through 2020, the winning candidate either swept or nearly swept the final six to eight battleground states. Are we still under-sampling Trump voters? Then again, is Trump’s improvement in the polls this cycle an indication the polling community finally got it right on the Trump vote? In 2020, the Trump campaign was the only one knocking on doors during Covid, as the Biden campaign feared scaring its supporters at the doors. The Harris campaign appears invested in doing traditional get-out-the-vote programs in all sorts of places.

Harris plays cleanup on Biden 'garbage' comment
  + stars: | 2024-10-30 | by ( Dan Mangan | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +4 min
Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday distanced herself from President Joe Biden's controversial comment that appeared to label supporters of former President Donald Trump as "garbage." Harris also said that Biden had "clarified" the comment he made Tuesday. "Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a 'floating island of garbage,'" Biden said on the call. In this version, it seemed that Biden was saying the "garbage" was Hinchcliffe's demonization of Latinos, not Trump supporters. In 2020, Biden beat Trump in the state by fewer than 81,000 votes, a margin of less than 1.2%.

Biden mentioned Puerto Rico, slandered as a “floating island of garbage” by a comedian at Trump’s event on Sunday night. “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said, pausing for a moment before continuing. She’s now almost certain to be asked whether she also regards Trump’s backers as “garbage.” Her answer will only prolong the story. In a neck-and-neck race that may be decided by mere thousands of votes in swing states, neither Harris nor Trump can afford mistakes. And as CNN reported on Tuesday, his gaffes have caused responses – from eyerolls to outright anger – from some Harris campaign aides.
